Heroes of Might and Magic Kingdoms- I've been waiting for this MMO for three years, when it was announced back in 2007. It's based on my absolute favorite game series of all time- Heroes of Might and Magic. I love these game so much that I still play Heroes 3, which came out in 1999.

It's essentially a kingdom-building war game. So far, I see a few things that set it apart from the pack.

1.- It has a ton of lore to draw on. In a sense, it's a very mature game. The units and spells available to you have been around a while, so they are fairly balanced. The art is also top-notch, since it draws from a series that has had millions spent on it- this makes the game very ascetically pleasing.

    2. It's run by one of the biggest game companies in the world, Ubisoft. This means that it has resources and dedicated staff behind it. Some browser games I've played have been run by one or a handful of staff. This makes changes slow in coming if they're needed.

    3. It had extensive beta testing, then the first 'season' was run in Europe, so it's had a lot of bugs worked out.

    4. The home site is very nice with tutorials, info, etc. It takes a lot of the guessing out of it.

Also, from what I've seen so far, it's not terribly time consuming. Each thing you do takes X amount of time. You set your action, and you're done. At the top of your game screen, there's a handy little timeline that shows you exactly when your action is done. So you don't have to hover and wait.

A few screenshots I pulled from the web:

I started it up yesterday and as of this writing I'm ranked 17 out of 1000 or so players, so I suppose my 10+ years of experience with the HOMM series helps.

I'd like to get a Clutchfans alliance going and dominate this game like we did a few years back with Oil Empires. For those of you not involved with Oil Empires back then, 20+ of us started the game and dominated it within two "Rounds" of play. In fact, some of the players still play. It was awesome fun.

I've already started a Clutchfans alliance. The cap is 20, but if we reach that, we can always spin off to Clutchfans2.

    Here's the LINK

That's referral link. What it does is two things: It settles your kingdom close to me so I can help out. It also gives me a bonus of gold, which seems to go down the more referrals I get. I'll make sure that everyone gets some scratch, which I will give to everyone via trade caravan. Both of these things will help us all in the short and long run.

There are some upsides to playing now. If you played Oil Empires with me and the crew, you remember that it was already a game that had been around for several months and had some seasoned players to overcome. HOMM Kingdoms just launched in the past week. This means that folks are still feeling their way around, and no strong alliances have been formed. Indeed, the biggest alliance as of this writing is 7 players. Also, even though I'm a noob to this particular game, I have tons of experience with this game series and can help fill in the blanks as we learn to play together.

SEND ME AN INGAME EMAIL to xerobull once you start by clicking INBOX and then the +envelope icon to compose an email. That way I know what username to invite to the alliance. Looks like your name and your username can be different.

If this takes off, I will start a forum for us to discuss the game, tactics, etc.

Please don't hesitate to use this thread to ask questions.

    See you all in game.

NOTES- I'll update as long as I can update this post.

IMPORTANT - SEND ME AN INGAME EMAIL to xerobull once you start by clicking INBOX and then the +envelope icon to compose an email. That way I know what username to invite to the alliance. Looks like your name and your username can be different.

    xerobull is my ingame username.

Very nice Info and Tools website

Awesome battle calculator on the same site

If you're in the alliance, the game auto-creates a little forum for us to use: Linky

    A few other things-

NOTE- There's an in-game chat for alliance at the bottom right of the game screen. You can contact me on any of the big IM clients at xerobull, too.

NOTE- be careful spending your skill points. From what I've read, it's best to specialize your different heroes. I'll post more as I figure it out.

Apparently there is an iPad app for this game out in Europe. I can see it coming here. Maybe even hackable for the iPhone if it's jailbroken.

I was able to access the game via iPhone. Not sure on the functionality, but I can see my kingdom, heroes, etc.

The game will walk you through the basic start.

Build a tavern in your town so you can recruit new heroes.
    Capture Mines.
Build a Town Hall in your town which will increase gold production.
    Build creature generating structures.

A strategy I use when I play HOMM is to hire heroes, then give all of their troops to an Alpha hero. This gives him more troops and he can capture much more earlier in the game.

IMPORTANT- Battling is a rock-paper-scissors setup. In addition to strength points:

    -cavalry is good vs archer
    -archer is good vs infantry
    -infantry is good vs cavalry

IMPORTANT - Upgrading vs Improving mines: See this LINK

Seems interesting. I bought a HOMM game seeeeeveral years ago and didn't really get into it much. I may give it a try if I get the chance, but not sure I have a ton of time now.

Will do. It's not accepting your username yet, but there may be a time limit or the system may be a bit slow to propagate. I'll try again in a bit.

Edit- could it be Prestonp? I found that user and sent an invite. Hope it's you....:)

Xerobull -- I'll join your group. My user name is CF_fadeaway

Do I have to be a particular faction in order to ally with you?

I don't think so. I chose Undead for two reasons. It has a good balance of might and magic, and in the other HOMM games, some of your troops get resurrected after each battle due to your necromancy.

But all of the factions have their pros and cons.

You might be able to play using some kind of US proxy.

Check THIS out. It's an article about how to use a proxy to use country-specific video sites. It may help.

    getready isn't working.

Do me a favor- if you don't receive an alliance invite, send me an in-game email at xerobull . That way I know what username to use to invite to the alliance.

Try again. I probably wasn't fully created then. I ended up going with the Inferno class.
