I was going through most of the elite teams in the NBA and asking myself and friends, who else has a similar point guard tandum? Let's go to the comparisons, then later I'll give a few examples of other teams with their starting and back up point guards, and how their comparison is dissimmilar to ours. Also I want to discuss how this tandum is a coaches dream, especially for an offensive minded guy like Adleman who loves to play with different types of set ups. First, Brooks: Speed, agility, great 3 point shooting and a growing mid-range game. Has a knack for turning the ball over though, yet I growing as a good assist teamate. But, in the end, he is a liability as a defender. Lowry: Not the quickest of point guards, but has the agility to defend even the greatest of point guards. Has flares of fantastic assists with great basketball I.Q., and can usually get to the line at will. But lacks in shooting the ball, he is getting better, but no where near what a "scoring" PG should be at. As a quick comparison, they are near polar opposites and give a different type of "atmosphere" on the floor. As I have watched this team throughout the last year, this has given defensive minded teams a handfull of problems, especially for veteran point guards such as D. Fish, Billups, Nash etc. Looking even furthur as another compaison to other point guards (you all might kill me) but Aaron is starting to look more and more like steve Nash. Now let's remember Nash was not the MVP point guard in his first 3 seasons, but he was showing inconsistant signs of greatness. Ask any Dallas fan. All Aaron needs to work on is his turn over ratio, and this will automatically tack on a couple assists that could have been... Lowry, if given enough minutes, looks exactly like Rajon Rondo. It's nice to know this is a good thing considering how well Rondo is doing in the playoffs. Think about it, they are both the top rebounding Point guards in the league, and arn't the greatest shooters, but greatly make up for that by being a pass first teammate. Also, not to mention, they are both great at performing incredible lay-ups in the clutch. Neither of these guys are as good as the Nash or Rondo, but it's not such a bad thing either if their talent level is right on the door step of each. Now, this my fellow Clutch Friends, triggers my mind to hope we never trade either PG (although Lowry looks safe.) Let this polar opposite tandum experiment work for a couple more years. Who else can name another team that might be similar to our point guard tandum? I know some people want elite pointguards on our team, but why waist the money on them if we have guys who can get the job done well enough to be a championship team? (a la Rondo) Sorry guys, my spelling might be a bit off tonight, and this topic may have already been discussed, but I wanted to present something fresh in a declining board. Thanks for reading! Discuss plese/
I see your Brooks/Lowry and I raise you a Chris Paul / Darren Collison. I love our PG combo and they might be top 5 as a combo (at best), but definitely not the best.
by rarest im pretty sure he's talking about how they are a yin and yang tandem, and i do agree 'rarest' because their games are unlike any other. brooks has the ability to hit the BIG shot and lowry can draw fouls and pass better than brooks atm. they also have the ability to play on the court AT THE SAME TIME; which isnt the case when your talking about collison/paul etc. because they basically cancel each other out making that tandem WORTHLESS.
Brooks and Lowry both play different styles which is a great thing to have in various situations. That is what makes them so deadly because one might be shut down and then you bring the other in and the opposing defense is thrown off because the PG is playing totally different now. But I think CP3 and Collison are the most complete tandem.
Nice comparisons but I dont know if Brooks can deliver the ball like Nash does and if Lowry can handle the ball as well as Rondo. We can only dream..
Never said they were the best, just stating, like everyone else has understood, how they are the rarest of tandums. Right as I pushed to send the topic in, I thought of Collison and CP3. But as I stated in the OT, for the money, these are great point guards to have on the team. Also, my comparisons to Nash and Rondo, I know they arn't as great as both, but they arn't that far behind. Neither do they have to be as great to win a championship with Morey behind the scene giveing these GOOD point guards something to work with.
Brooks isn't a weak playmaker. I think too many individuals are stuck in the notion of rigid positions; that is a PG does this, a C does that, a PF does this. The way the Roxs are setup doesn't necessarily require a traditional PG to be offensively potent, as we've seen this season. To the OP: I love the Rox's PG combo. I would be very disappointed if it was broken for less than a superstar. Our tandem's strength is that they turn our two units into two different teams which keeps our opponents scrambling.
I might go San Antonio for this one. Parker: Speedy, likes to shoot floaters, lays it up. Hill: More of a shooter? Not really a good argument on my part, but this is the first tandem that came to my mind (besides ours) that bordered on the two 1s having different games.
If Lowry was like Rondo.....he would start. I wonder what a 35 minute Lowry might produce because a tandom of KM and AB, does not spell deep playoffs.(at least not to me)
I beg to differ because our team is becoming so much more offensive than any other year in the last decade. Aaron needs to start because of his offensive capabilities with Adlemans system. KM, Yao, and (I really hope!) Bosh could get it started. Then comes in lowry and battier with scola to make our team completely different looking. But in the end, your fragmented sentence really confuses me in the end, sorry I couldn't address your comment furthur bro. But, thanks for the feedback non-the-less.
lol well typing in the Iphone is kind of hard, especially on long posts. So deal with it So how many shot attempts will KM, AB, Bosh, and Yao require? Than how many will the rest of the team have? It's not like KM or AB can play above average defense any time they want. SF+Cat was a better random because Cat at least played D.
You can't necessarily think of how many shot will each require or have, but who can step up when one is having a bad game? Or, in pivital situations, who can knock down that must need shot late in the fourth or to take the lead and keep it. About defence now, the Pheonix suns just showed all it takes is a little effort on defence. Given, they are better than the past years, but they are still mostly offensive minded team. If the Rockets can step up on defence when it matters most, it does not matter who is on the floor. I'm not to worried about defence because we have the man power and the effort to be good enough. In the end, I'm just happy to see such a diverse team or effort and talent.
A team playing a 7'6" traditional Center needs a traditional pass first Point Guard! If Yao returns to form, Brooks will find it so much more difficult to score close to the basket. Yao will need to get the ball passed to him.
AB doesn't play like Nash at all. Nash is never a scoring first PG even though he can flat out score, AB is nothing but a scoring PG/SG combo.
I knew someone would bring this up. Yet, this is their greatest difference only because Nash has.... Wait for it.... Wait for it!!! Staudomire! He alone will give you about 5 assists per game, so why score if you can bring a man child of athleticism into a scoring frenzy. the point is, Nash does not need to score THIS SEASON. Your short term memory does not bode you well. Before the Suns became who they are, Nash had to score! He didn't have to go crazy every game like AB, but he had to carry his own when people were injured. I will sit down and shut up when comes next year when AB has all the weapons that Nash has, and cannot produce a legitamet assist rating.
They Complement eachother really really well .. Seperate them and they'll play well drop .. That's why KLow should stay here He's not a NBA starter point gaurd .. he's better than some Starting PG in the league But he's energy is wasted when he starts the game ..
If we're going to make a big move this summer, I'd rather upgrade at the point guard. I don't disagree with what you said about our tandem, but neither is near elite on their own. They compliment each other and have their strengths, but a team like ours could sure use a guard who can get double-digit assists most nights.
