Broken Lizard's third endeavor failed miserably. "Club Dread" is a take on the slasher genre that combines the traditional campyness of slasher movies with the "poop" and "pee pee" jokes of Super Troopers. But there's just one, small, problem. IT ISN'T FUNNY. Most of the jokes fall flat. And there are some really wooden lines; it's painful. With this movie, Broken Lizard is proved to be a one hit wonder. Too bad, since Super Troopers was genius. Grade: D+
I could probably find this out easily, but what was Broken Lizards' other movie besides this and Super Troopers? BTW, we're going tonight. I expect it to be funny after a few beers at the Drafthouse.
For some reason it isnt around at any of the theatres near me, was wanting to see it last night and looked in the paper for times and it wasnt anywhere.
Nomar reminds me of a watered down Roger Ebert... 9 times out of 10...if he loves a movie...I will hate it and vise versa.. I love sophomoric humor movies...therefore...I should enjoy this one.
wow... so all of you are going to go because nomar said the movie stinks? what's he ever done wrong? he thought ROTK wasn't the greatest. and then he really liked the last samurai, but not lost in translation. whatever, i disagree but he has some valid points. i have to say the trailer looked pretty idiotic, and i'll see just about anything but i'm gonna skip this. maybe i'll watch it when it comes out on dvd. oh i was able to watch the legend of suryothai (sp) on dvd last night. good movie! having to watch subtitles gets a little tiring though. oh and i'm going to push Musa -- The Warrior one more time. that was so awesome.
Did you like Super Troopers? If so, then you have little reason to not go see Club Dread save for Nomar's rantings. Super Troopers was great and the trailer looked pretty stupid for it as well. It isn't often a movie can be judged by the trailer (the trailer for The Matrix was really, really bad).
How anyone found "Super Poopers" funny amazes me. It was the stupidest movie I'd seen in a long time. Want humor? Watch "Spaceball's or UHF". Broken Lizard should leave comedy to professionals.
Super Troopers was a dumb movie, very stupid. The only funny part was when the guy had to eat all the drugs.
I'm very curious about the responses of all the people who went to see this because I thought it sucked.
now...I didnt say I was going to go see it...but I will probably give it a chance to waste an hour and a half of my time when it comes out on cable..just like I did with Super Poopers...
True Super Troopers' plot was Saved By the Bell quality, but I was laughing almost start to finish. Comedy troops like Broken Lizard rule and don't get nearly enough exposure. They have chemistry that most other comedys today don't have.
