To think that we UPGRADED to this not long ago. :D

Guh. Its amazing what a trip across town can change.

Back at my parents, this DSL connection would easily have been up in the 600-700 range. When I had it moved to my place across town, I noticed it wasn't the same awesome connection I remember it being...

    this proves it.

    153.84 Kbps

I know Excite @Home users used to get 3-4 MBit/sec download speeds before crappy ass AT&T bought them and capped the d/l speeds at 1.5 Mbits. I know because I was an Excite @Home customer and that's why my d/l speeds were.

    Now I have a piddly 1.554 Mbit/s throughput.

1.272Mbps, which in KBps is 162.82. I've had downloads move at over 300KBps, so it all depends on your ISP and the server you are downloading from.

For those who might be questioning the difference between the two numbers: just remember that the latter one is the bigger number divided by ~8.

Depends on the type of connection. The last I read about it, the theoretical maximum throughput of cable modems was around 28-30 Mbits/sec, but trust me... none of us see that. :D
