Up until now my apartment has had their own server for broadband connectivity where we had a 192.168 IP address. The price was reasonable and built into the rent. They are discontinuing it now and so I have to get another form of broadband pretty quickly. We have Dish network, so I think RoadRunner is out... We have no landbased phone line not that we'd ever go back to dial up), we only use cell phones. Any suggestions?
I have Dish Network and I use Road Runner... its solid, occasional downtime but nothing too big pretty good i would say

Since you use dish, why not bundle it with DSL? AT&T will give you phone, DSL, dish, and LD for 90 bucks a month.
I had the exact same result. They are here but I'm in the "country" so no-go. I've been with RoadRunner for about six years now with little or no complaint-- except price!
www.wildblue.com They are better than Direcway based on what I've heard, but still expensive w/ latency issues.
Get a land line and a grab the AT& T (SBC) special for 12.99 -- I just started my 2nd year ($15) and my total charges are 24 bucks for the telephone and broadband.
On a related issue: I'm thinking of switching my TimeWarner digital phone service to Vonage (for 2/3rds the price and I get to pick up 3-way calling). Any nay-sayers about Vonage...
I just switched my phone service over to Vonage... what a pain. The operator was some young guy in the Phillipines who struggled with English. It took 30 minutes. I've got 30 days to decide... Man, I just wanted to hang up. Anyone else should just go online and do it...
i guess fios from verizon is out of the question.... i get the following on a regular basis. 564.8 KBytes/sec on verizon's site 469.9 kilobytes per second on bandwidthplace.com basically its just shy of 4 megabits/second when i was in houston i had just local calls on the land line and dsl through them for just over $30/month
Check out this site: http://www.whichvoip.com/ and http://www.whichvoip.com/voip/voip_reviews.htm Vonage is not the best VoIP service out there. I signed up with VoicePulse based on the reviews there and have not been disappointed.
