Tiger is making the links course his b**** today, putting on a show. Jack just birdied his final British Open hole. Let's get some British Open talk going!
It's on TNT. Tiger's 5 storkes ahead of the field right now. I hope someone shows up to challange him.
Is this the course will all the big bunkers? One year I think tiger did not hit a single bunker all 4 rounds.
Yeah that was the last time it was played at St. Andrews. He made everyone else stupid that time too. I really don't want him to kill the compitition. It makes it more fun to watch when the match is close.
The thing about Jack is... (IMHO) I feel that Jack shouldn't be giving up. I know he's had a hip replacement, but he still has the shots. He could lose some of that gut, get in better physical condition and be a strong competitor again. What he lacks now is the hunger. He's sold himself on the "i'm too old. I can't do it anymore" mindset. He's different than Arnold Palmer, though. He's younger and could still compete. It makes me sad to see him leave. Not because he's old, but because he's given up even though he still has game.
I disagree. I don't think he is giving up, I think he is walking away with style. I remember Arnolds last time at the Open and he couldn't even break 80. I think this is just another example of how much class he has and how much respect he has for the game.
Just playing doesn't get Jack out of bed, it's being in the hunt. At 65 you ain't in the hunt. His fighting for the cut but losing the fight at 16 let him live the moment on 17 and 18. Making the birdie on 18..a story book perfect ending to the best career in the history of the game. The fact is we all have to deal with our mortality and Jack dealt with it the same way he played the game, pure class. I have watched 14 hours of coverage the last two days and enjoyed every minute of it. Thank god for DVR's though; I can ease in around 11AM to start watching and I don't have to watch the 1000 prostate commercials or the 1000 Kyra Sedgwick commercials. Other than the TNT promo's shown over the golf coverage, The TNT broadcast has been awesome good.
You said it! This is why I respect Jack a lot more than Palmer. It was clear Palmer was just addicted to the adulation that is poured over him every time he tees up. This is why Arnie continued to hang on. Jack, on the other hand, is addicted to competition. Going out there with zero chance of making the cut doesn't appeal to the Golden Bear. Arnie didn't care how well he played just as long as people fawned over and adored him. This is why I feel Jack is the greatest competitor that ever played the game. I actually feel sorry for Arnie; he was just plain pathetic the last few years.
Tiger well on his way to winning. Jose and Monty had their chances, but couldn't get it done when they needed to.
Tiger is awesome. Like he said, 3 majors, finishes 1,2,1. Holy crap. The prodigy keeps on trucking. You have to give him credit. He took all that heat over his game, and he came back and shoved it in everyone's face. Bring on the next major. I think someone will step up and give tiger a run eventually, but I don't see that person showing up in the next two or three years. I don't think anyone is even close to him right now. He doesn't seem as dominant as when he was a kid, but the finishes aren't lying. He's on top of his game.
I think we're seeing Tiger Woods v.2. When firts became a pro, his play was miraculous. It changed the game of golf as we know it. Designers started having to make their courses longer. People started having to change their course strategy to be more aggressive. (yes there were other reasons, but Tiger was a facter, as well). But then the slide came. Courses were longer and harder. Tiger got a little older and less hungry. He lost his relationship with his swing coach, and he married a Swedish Nanny. His game dropped off. He's now just beginning to come back, but as a different golfer. He has a lot fewer of the miracle shots. But he's winning now with a grinding, diligent style. He's revamped his swing and still struggles greatly with it. But he's worked hard to climb out of the rut, and we're just seeing the beginning of his resurgence.
