They need to outsource some of these calling teams out to London, because that was commentary that actually made me pay attention to what they were saying... They actually sound like they are into the game, unlike so many national American announcers who only have a pulse when Celtics or Lakers play.
I have a friend from Scotland who says basketball is for ladies. They have next to no exposure to the game there, it seems.
LMAO! Larry Bird was 5 "11 or even shorter. Dumbass that was Stockton who played for the Jazz. Next up, its "and one" not "3 pointer" when you make the shot plus free throw. My favorite part is commentary from sideline reporter Collin Murray " I can see a bead of sweat around his nose and face". Brilliant insight! LOL what a bunch of noobs trying to call the game.
Yep. My friends in Wales think Basketball is for girls. They have a game over their thats "similar" called netball and only women play it, so they really don't understand our NBA. It's quite funny.
Charitably, you figure these guys are like old-school Howard Cosell: feigning or verbalizing actual ignorance in order to bring in people watching for the first time. Then there's this. The sideline reporter states, after watching some of the most graceful athletes in the world who also hail from the US: 4:30 in, after Amaechi calmly explains the concept of "No easy dunks":
LOL at the irony of this post. Why don't we take a larger sample size than the less than 1% of the US population that consists of professional athletes? That quote is extremely accurate and you know it. Great vid, the commentators were clearly goofballs and new to the game of basketball, but there's no doubt that overall the Brits have better play by play commentators, are more observant than the Americans, and are far superior on the delivery of their grammar. Jeff Van Gundy is recognized for his distinct wit over here, in England, it wouldn't be noticeable. People hold things to a higher standard.
A Chuuuesday night out, at the bollgayme....Need examples of people making fun of American accents. Why do we think our style of talk is exempt? They did poke fun at the American fatassery of our eating ways Larry Bird 5'-11", some bad metric to pounds conversion going on there.. I didnt hear that much discernible difference in quality of commentary between them and US. They're naturally going to be more descriptive if they're pointing out nuances of the game to the unknowing. Wouldnt necessarily conclude that as having "higher standards", I'd call it different. Dont mean to take too much social aspects out of this little clip...Its my opinion, call it high standard I guess, that they have a fresher approach to life in general. I liked the candidness of them point out the cheerleaders, almost half expected them to whistle one over lol.
Could you confine your America-hating schtick to one forum at a time? My vote: go troll the Texans fans for the foreseeable future.
That indicates the standard of quality is pretty pretty low. It's not just a mistake recalling Bird's height, but they used it as an example that short people can play basketball. Usually you have the most knowledgeable people as commentators. This also tells you something about the state of UK basketball in general.
Is anyone else reading every single thread reply in a british accent like i just was? Am i turning into britney spears?
They might not be that good at calling basketball games, but the Americans don't even compare to the British in calling football (soccer) games.
That bit, the bit about the jazz cheerleaders and Luol Deng's "Huge" charge play were the highlights for me.
How much money would i have to shell out to have that one pbp british dude commentate 24 hours of my life?
