a refresher thread for those who believe in hometown products.
    *coughdraftvinceyoungcough*

[Yahoo/SportingNews] says Rashard likely to opt out

What roster moves do you think would work? Rashard could be a young Jim Jackson for us minus some defensive edge, but how do we fit him in with McGrady?

Can't have TMac chase around 2s, but Rashard has the size to create problems at the 3.

What if we went smallish around Yao, like the Suns and Hawks?
Athletic swingmen at 2/3/4 with a playmaker 1 and dominant 5?
    Alston, Bogans, McGrady, Lewis, Yao?

exactly. that's the problem. any roster ideas? i have no clue about our current payroll, but don't we start shedding dead contracts within the next two years? somehow after barry's waiving, wesley's expiring, getting hayes and swift on the cheap, losing mutombo to retirement, it feels like we'll have financial flexibility soon. am i wrong?

You are wrong. The Rockets won't be under the cap for the foreseeable future.

Even with all those things you mentioned, there is still (1) T-Mac, (2) Yao and (3) Juwan, plus miscellaneous (Stromile, Rafer, Luther, etc.).

The only way to do this would be via sign and trade. And the only way that makes sense is if Seattle will take back Juwan, and even then I imagine we'd have to throw more salary in there. So to summarize, this happens by: (1) Rashard saying he wants to play in Houston, (2) Rashard willing to take at least a little bit of a pay cut, (3) Seattle willing to do a sign and trade as oppossed to just letting him walk and (4) Seattle willing to do said sign and trade with Juwan Howard and his 3 more years and something else (maybe we could add-on Bob Sura, who could then retire and save them money, plus throw in a trade exception??).

Then, when you are all said and done, you probably have a pretty competitive team, but CD would have to be even more crafty about acquiring those remaining pieces at good value.

I don't want Rashard. He's definitely an above average player but nothing special. He's basically just a very tall outside shooting SF. He doesn't create or handle very well, and doesn't make teammates better. Getting him would force Tracy back to SG which is a bad move. Thanks but no thanks. Gimme a new starting SG instead.

I would love to bring Shard home, unfortunately, he would have to take a pretty hefty paycut to do so.

Like posted above, getting Shard would basically have to move TMac back to SG. If we are going to spend money, I'd like to see us pick up a bigger SG that can shoot to play along with TMac.

I would also like to see rashard home but itz not the right time. He's not old, I'm pretty sure we get him later on. I bet if clutchfans was running in 1990, this thread would be about bringing Clyde home and it wouldn't have happened then either. Best homegrown products to bring home would either be Stephen Jackson (the big 2 everyone keeps talkin bout getting) or TJ Ford. Rox aint gettin either one anytime soon. I love seeing homegrown products come back to their home team though.
    Ultimate Pipe Dream-
    Ford/Gibson/JL III
    Jackson/Green/Ewing
    Tmac/Lewis/Ebi
    Okefur/Swift/Hayes
    Yao/Deke/Perkins(close enough)
-Will never happen but fun to think about.

IIRC Shard cannot opt out until after next season. IMO Shard's a complementary piece, a good one -- but with real maturity issues.

IMO Shard will be dealt this summer and heading 'home' is, at least, an open possibility.

I'd like him to be here and could see him on the court if McGrady slides to the 2. He can even play the 4 for a few minutes. He'd feast on the open looks Yao and McGrady could generate.

Downside is, I can't see Les adding him for $10+ mill per. We'd be in the lux tax for the rest of the decade. Stromile, a first rounder, and whomever we can get with the mid-level this summer would probably be our best package. I doubt that would win an auction for his services.

I could easily see Dallas nabbing him, and they almost got him a couple years ago.

I think people are forgetting the Rockets free agent rule. Any free agent that signs with the Rockets will proceed to suck ass once he gets here. If Rashard signs here, I can pretty much guarantee he'll have the worst season of his career...

    ***May I have your attention.***

Rashard Lewis has not and will never play for the Houston Rockets.

    That is all, carry on.
