He already coached Hakeem and Drexler to a championship. He can do the same with Yao and TMac and bunch of shooters like the old days.

Would Rudy be able to adapt to "today's" NBA? I'd bet Rudy would adapt much faster than a stubborn JVG, even with Rudy being away from the game for so long. He went from the inside-outside style in the championship times to the iso style in the Francis/Mobley days. He was a head coach as recently as 3 years ago and had moderate success. But moderate success is the most he's had his past few years as coach...

And, he's NOT a candidate anyways.

Although I doubt he will coach again, I would like to see him be part of the Rockets organization again. It sucks that he is working for the Lakers.

It's amazing that there is such a large number of people who have forgotten how boring and ineffective ISO ball was against the NBA zone. He's not a candidate...let him ride off into the NBA sunset.

Let him savor his championship years instead of moping around how his last season ended if he does return. I don't think he would be effective in today's NBA.

I loved him as a coach though but not a perfect fit for the Rockets.

When will people realize that the ERA Dream played in is very different from now. You put Yao and T-mac in the early 90's and this team would of made it to the damn finals.

Funny... now to think of it, Les ran Rudy out of town and now he's doing the same with JVG.

Rudy forced the NBA to adapt to him.........he most certainly would be successful today as well....if ....IF he wanted to.

Ugghhh. Rudy T. was a terrible coach who had absolutely no ability to adapt. The Rockets won two championships despite him. Please, please, please, please . . . no talk about Rudy T.

Wow - you could not be more wrong, Rudy forced the league to change their defensive rules by his use of the ISO.....

Larry Brown called Rudy one of the best basketball minds he had ever met.

Rudy was the last US coach to win Olympic Gold.

Haha, you are so hilarious ...
Just because something happened does not mean the credit has to go to your favorite coach, player, GM or whoever ...

If this was true, the credit should go to Stevie. What does Rudy has to do with it? :)

99% of the coaches says nice things about one another.
I could coach the US team to every single title ever played !

It was no less effective than what we've seen since. It was no less effective than what Phil Jackson ran in LA the year after Rudy.

Question: are zones allowed in international ball?

What's your point? VG is trying to replicate the 90's just like Rudy did with Hakeem. It won't work in the NBA of today. Rudy never took the Rockets anywhere after Hakeem went over the hill. He couldn't get the ISO-ball of Francis and Mobley to the playoffs. VG for all of his faults at least did that.

They are both the wrong coach at the wrong time...2007. The only difference is Rudy is far more personable.
