Vandamere and Dalotti said that Indiana has pulled out of the McGrady (and Shaq) sweepstakes. They made reference to the official indiana website where Bird was quoted as saying that they are out of the running. I am computer stupid so have not been able to locate the website.

For what it's worth, Vandamere and Dalotti both believe that the deal will ultimately go through, as do I.

I'd ordinarily not make a new thread, but I think these are unusual circumstances. Also, I would like people to update the Vandamere show if they make further mention . . . I'm back in the office now.

I think it was more of a rant and power trip of Larry Legend. He wants his cake and be able to eat it. He doesnt want Artest and O'neal gone. He needs a life as does Orlando for trying to even consider getting them in return. As for The Suns, Marion is great, but they aren't getting 3 starters and Orlando know that, I think the fact they came so close to terms with Houston and the time to draft so near, that the time to finalize a deal before the draft, what Orlando want, will pass.

I said this in another thread.... You have to wonder if that story was done BEFORE the snag yesterday. Perhaps they were out initially and then when the snag happend they are getting back in.

But, if the Pacers are looking at the draft now more and are willing to part with pieces to move up then yes, they are out. But I would guess their first priority is T-Mac.

However, they cant wait forever as the draft might be their #2 option. And they have to go to it before the draft.

Hopefully Indy is out of it. The lesser the competition the better!

It's dated the 22nd but it does mention the snag yesterday.

(I left it out of my post in the Bird thread)

"There were reports Tuesday that the Orlando-Houston deal might’ve run into a roadblock. Steve Francis, the key player the Rockets were sending to the Magic, said he did not want to play in Orlando. The entirety of the deal reportedly would send Francis, Kelvin Cato and Cuttino Mobley to Orlando in exchange for McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue and possibly Reece Gaines.

The New York Post reported the Pacers offered Al Harrington, Jonathan Bender and Jeff Foster to Orlando.

“My personal opinion is they might’ve gotten a better deal from us,” said Bird. “Taking nothing away from the guys that have been traded, I like our guys. I know our guys are talented and they’re hard workers. But when you go after Tracy McGrady you’ve got to give up something and the price was just too high.”"

I know Bird was just trying to talk his players up to make his deal looks more attractive but the fact that he said that makes you wonder about the values of our guys.

Harrington, Bender and Foster is a better deal than Francis, Cat and Cato? Man, that hurts!

If Tracy won't sign a long term deal with anyone but the Rockets, it doesn't matter what other teams dangle in front of the magic. The more they offer, the worse their team becomes and the less likely it would be that Tracy would sign a long term deal with them.

Harrington, Bender and Foster is a BETTER deal than ours?

Forget it. Even if those three could play better than our three (Steve, Cat, Cato), who would pay to go see them?

And doesn't offering Foster actually hurt Bird's image? Make him look like a hypocrite? (;)) "Hey!" the Pacers fans will say. "We need more white players, not less! Where are those whities you promised us?!?!"

very true...obviously the concern is that mcgrady might do something else....but not sure why he would, frankly. particulary with phoenix after they traded away everyone and their dog to get him.
