I do not understand all the fuss about Brian Grant. He just had an off year last season averaging 7.3 pts, 5.5 rb , 49.1%FG and 67%FT. He did not do better in the playoffs with 5.4 pts, 5.8 rb, 44.6% FG. There is no guarantee that he will play like the past few years. He is almost 29 yrs old. His image is a sign of trouble (long hair and tatoos). On the other hand Othella Harrigton had a good season averaging 13.1 pts, 6.9 rb, 50.6% FG, 79% FT and he is two years younger than Grant. He knows the Rockets system and Rudy loves him. Rudy was hard pressed to trade him for Francis and would love to have him back. Othella works hard and is a decent looking (no sign of trouble). Othella has good moves in the paint and can drill the 12-15 ft jumb shot . He plays pretty good defense and a good offensive rebounder. Out of the two I will take Othella my fella in a heart beat. ------------------
This post has stupidity written all over it. I won't even talk about the player, i'll talk about the man you just branded as a troublemaker. First off, NEVER judge a person by looks. NEVER. Period. Got that? Brian Grant is actually, one of the best examples of that. You ever heard about the community work he does, that he befriended a young boy who was dying, if i'm not mistaken of cancer, and that he has won the good citizenship award from the NBA just recently? Until you get your facts straight you'd better stay low. Damn, that really ticked me off! ------------------ "Never underestimate the heart of a champion"
I'm sorry, but this is extremely stereotypical and wrong. Just because a person has long hair and tatoos they are a bad person? Brian Grant, in case you didn't know, is one of the nicest and classiest guys in the entire NBA. He won the league's sportsmanship award a year ago I believe, and is a constant worker at community functions around Portland. If you are looking for a role model in the NBA, which you shouldn't be, but if you were, Brian Grant would be one of the best choices. Aside from that, you didn't factor in something called minutes or production. Brian Grant was injured all year and played 21 MINUTES A GAME! What do you expect a guy that's recovering from knee surgery, playing 21 minutes a game, and is not a focal point of the offense even when he plays? On the other hand, Othella played 33 minutes a game in Vancouver, was perfectly healthy, in the starting lineup, and about the only low post option in Vancouver. Of course he'll get better numbers. The point we all go by is talent. Grant is a worker with a decent offensive game, great rebounding and defense, and he gives 100% every night. He is Rudy's kind of player. You want a guy flying out of bounds to save the ball? You want a guy giving everything he has to grab a rebound? You want a guy giving 110% defensively against the top PF's in the game like so few do? You want a PF loaded with strength, good character, heart, and skill both offensively and defensively? Then Brian Grant should fit you very well, and he would fit the Rockets very well too. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Well said, Cat. That's telli'him. we have GOT to get Brian Grant on our team somehow. Pray on fellow rockets. i know i will be. (As i've stated a thousand times over in the RASTAMAN post) ------------------ "Never underestimate the heart of a champion"
Thanos and Cat, I agree that you shouldn't judge a player by his looks, but I don't think Brian Grand deserves 10 mil or the max. If he was a starting PF for a team he would probably get 15 to 17 PPG and 10 to 12 RPG. Grant a good player, maybe a star, and a great player to have on your team as he is a great guy on the court and off the court. He brings good intensity, hustle, and post defense. I think Grant deserves maybe 6 to 8 mil year, if he doesn't have injury problems. I would love to have Grant but not at 10 to 13 mil a year. Comparing Othella to Brian Grant is ridiculous. PS I don't think Croshere is worth 7 years 51 mil. ------------------ "See they pick and pick and pick. Man they picked me to death." -Steve Francis on the Utah Jazz
Thanos - You could have explained like "the Cat" but because of your stupidity and bad temper you could not. ------------------ [This message has been edited by COMPAQ CENTER (edited August 04, 2000).]
I have next to ZERO tolerance for that kind of statement. I'm sorry if you don't feel comfortable being on the receiving end of my wrath but you sure as hell deserved it. I'll try and keep my cool in the future, but i don't guarantee it. ------------------ "Never underestimate the heart of a champion"
WAIT just one darn minute !!! You mean that Long hair and tattoos DON'T make a person a bad seed? Ah man, next thing you know someone will tell me the English have good teeth. You just can't count on things anymore (sigh) DaDakota "sarcasm most assuradely intended !" ------------------
I don't know...it depends on how you look at the stament. I sure as hell know that I was damn scared when I saw a guy like that when I came to the US for the first time six years ago. Of course I was eleven and new to the country then, and I guess such stereotypes still stand. Maybe we should look at COMPAQ CENTER as being the victim of the way society depicts people. I mean, isn't he like 13 or something? Maybe this is the time when we can rid him of such thoughts, rather than spending our time bashing him without telling him why. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) Grant is a good guy, a great basketball player, and a rastafarian pothead. Not only is he a MUCH better basketball player than Othella, he gets WAY better weed. I would welcome Grant and his connection to Houston anyday. Of course, we run the risk of Bryce Drew growing dreds and waking up to a Grafix bong because of Grant's influence, but hey- no guts, no glory. ------------------ -The expert has spoken, so shut up and try to comprehend the truth.
Othella started for a full season and only got 6.9 rebs a game? Doesn't anyone else have a problem with that? ------------------ Ugh, Another Rockets off-season....I'm gonna need a keg of Pepto-Bismol.
You're joking, right? I would assume so, cause if you're serious, you couldn't be further from the truth. Brian Grant to all of my knowledge is a nice and classy person, and is not involved with drugs and the likewise. If you're serious, you must have him confused with someone else. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net Vote in the 64 player 1 on 1 NBA Tournament! I'm sorry, but this is extremely stereotypical and wrong. Just because a person smokes mar1juana does not make them by default anything less than classy (whatever that may entail) and/or nice. Any more than long hair and tattoos make someone a thug.
When I think of as classy person, I think of a role model- someone whose qualities and heart I wish we could replicate in the world. People who are obsessed with harmful drugs and doing things of the likewise to themselves IMO don't fall under the category of being classy, or people I would want to be like. Sorry for getting off-topic, but I had to express that that is not stereotypical. However, on-topic, Brian Grant to the best of my knowledge is not involved with anything like that at all. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Attack of the Spelling police. Just make sure you don't spell "Fizer" "Pfizer". I sensed trouble the moment I read about his long hair and tatoos causing trouble. Odds are, if you haven't seen his personality (one of the most giving people in the community), you haven't seen him play a good deal either. I would agree with the Cat. Someone who smokes mar1juana is screwing up their life/brain. Letting your hair grow out is temporary, doesn't hurt you, or anyone. While someone who smokes dope may genuinely be a good person, I wouldn't want to be around them on a bad trip. Weed is against the law. Growing your hair out, and getting tatoos aren't. As far as Grant vs. Othella, that's a no brainer in favor of Grant. I also would think that having a guy like Grant around, would probably help Cato out. I am also skeptical of Grant=max, but he's certainly worth at least 6-7 mill IMO. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
I think the Rockets should sign the following players: Dennis Rodman, Brian Grant, Allen Iverson, Lateral Sprewell, Anthony Mason and Jason Willimas. Rockets for sure will be a fun team to watch Looks aside, If we can get Othella much cheaper than Grant then it is a no brainer. Signing Grant for $10M is a joke and a big gamble. Everyone seems to forget the bad season that he just had (his stocks must be falling down). Injury or not he is was not the same player of few seasons ago. There is no guarantee that he ever will be. Everyone is expecting him to average 20/10 once with the Rockets. He could be injury prone. On the other hand, Othella had a good year and he works hard too. He might not be as tough as Grant but I think he is a much better player for the money. Nuff said. ------------------
Cat I hate to be the one to say 'wake up and smell the...' but you seem a bit socially naive. Brian Grant has Marley tats...dreads...and holidays in Jamaica... Lets just say that pot smoking tends to take place in that social 'community...' Everyone's entitled to there opinion...but Pot Smoking does not make one the devil... Give me the smokers over the drinkers each and every day of the week...just my opinion. Grant is a cool guy, who in all likelyhood smokes Pot in moderation. I know Lawyers, Doctors...and Artists and guys without jobs who smoke. None are better or worse than each other because they do that.Grant is a great guy. Full stop. ------------------
I would take Grant over Harrington in a second, and I think he would be worth whatever he can get. His stats were down because he was hurt much of the year. In the playoffs, he had to face Shaq, and spent the whole series in foul trouble. I would sign him for 10 million, but I don't think I would sign him for more than 4 or 5 years, although he is probably looking for his last contract. Harrington "only averaged 6.9 boards a game" because Shareef was pulling 10 boards a game, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. If I recall correctly, he averaged more boards per 48 minutes than Dream during O's last year with us. j ------------------
SRJ, Yes I understand what goes on in that "community". But it is wrong to look at Grant's looks and where he goes for vacation and think you KNOW he smokes pot. You may suspect him of it, which I personally don't, but that does not mean he does it as Special Patrol Group made it sound. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi?
