Brian Cushing Named AFC Defensive Player of The Week

Some more love for The Texans rookie sensation.

Brian Cushing is the first rookie to win the honors so far this season and the first Texans defensive player since Mario Williams in 2007. He earned the honors by making nine tackles, forcing two fumbles and snagging a game clinching interception against Cincinnati last Sunday.

Cushing has changed the intensity of the Texans defense and is making an early case for Defensive rookie of the year. Let's hope this is his first of many achievements with the team.

Well Deserved! Keep up the great work Cushing.

Pretty impressive, didn't expect him to get the honor after watching Elvis dominate the Chargers on Monday but very happy he got the honor after a superb game.

Are you talking about Dumerville? Because I'm pretty sure he was drafted the same year that Mario Williams was drafted.

Yes, that was in fact what I was thinking because I had posted in another thread where he was placed on an ESPN power ranking for all rookies at #1, so I got them confused in my mind. Well done unraveling the apparently highly confusing mystery.

    Congrats to Cush.

The Texans have now gotten all three types of player's of the week.

Schaub was AFC Offensive Player of the Week in week 2, Jacoby Jones was AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in week 4, and now Cushing gets the defensive honors.

Congrats to Cushing for the honor.

I think right now he's the front runner for Defensive ROY.

Our linebacker core is pretty awesome with Brian, Demeco and Zack, Need some beef upfront and another excellent corner in the draft and we'll be an elite D next year.

    That aint no rookie :p
He's a playmaker at the position and he knows how to do all the little things. Most of all, I love that he does not backdown and will even throw an extra hit if needed. Cushing looks he's being playing with demeco since 2006.
