I just caught wind that Brevin Knight is looking to be moved from Charlotte and it got me a little intrigued because I've always thought he was vastly underrated. He could definitely help the Rockets, either as the starter or as a big minute backup, so being trade-happy as I am, I had to at least try and think of a deal for us to bring him over. Haven't put too much thought into it yet, but here's something I threw together that works salary wise... Swift Head for Knight Ely Now I'm not a huge proponent of trading Luther, but what it comes down to is that Charlotte won't take our garbage. If for some reason they were willing to take Swift (thinking he's not garbage) and Luther was absolutely necessary to make the deal work, I think I'd do it. What Knight brings in terms of playmaking and running the offense efficiently is good enough, but he is also very defensive minded and could help out tremendously against the smaller/quicker lineups teams like to run these days. Ely is a young big body at 6'10" that can bang down low when needed...something we've been missing badly (Hayes is good, but only 6'6"). This trade is a sacrifice for sure in the sense that we're sending Luther away after a promising rookie season, but you can't get something for nothing unless you're dealing with the Knicks. Anybody got any other trade ideas for how we can get Knight from Charlotte? Remember, they like youth, small contracts (so no Juwan), and draft picks.
With the way people complain about Rafer's shooting, I can only imagine what they'd say if we got Knight.
I do that trade in a heartbeat...Luther will one day be a solid rotational NBA player on a good team or a starter on a poor team, but he will always be undersized and a tweener. Knight is one of the most underrated players in the league and, despite his lack of 3pt shooting range, would be the Rox best PG since Sam I Am.
I too wouldn't mind seeing Knight in a Rockets uniform but this would make Rafer Alstons role obsolete on this team. We paid Rafer a lot and gave up a lot and I don't think we did that for him to play a back up role on this team. Especially since he's a pure pg and doesn't provide that instant offense that many guards are capable of provding and also he is not a combo guard since he can't play minutes at the 2. Overall, Giving up Head and Swift is a lot to sacrafice (not just in terms of production but more importantly DEPTH) for a position we already have filled. I don't think we should jump the gun and do anything too dramatic since last year was a wash.
I really like Brevin Knight a lot. I wanted the Rockets to go after him the last two off-seasons. But one thing to keep in mind is that he is very injury prone. In 9 years in the league, he only have 4 seasons in which he played more than 60 games and only 1 season in which he played more than 70 games. So even if we somehow manage to snatch him, we still need a quality backup point to fill in for him when he inevitably gets injuried.
with the amount of assists he averages on a team like that....i remember he played real good against us, hit a bunch of big shots, and made big plays, i wudnt mind this, i just dont know how he plays, is he fast? is he only good in fast pace offense? can he play half court? can he adjust to wat jvg tells him to? is he a good teammate?
The only reason why he is in the league still is because the league added another team two years ago.
Yes, he is very fast. He used to be like lightning in college. But he has slowed down a little bit and matured and he is a great decision maker. But he is undersized and a facilitator. Nothing wrong with that though. I'd take him in a backup role or even a starter's role if we could trade Rafer.

If this was somehow getting Knight in exchange For Juwan I would be interested. But Head and Swift for Ely and Knight? Definitely not.
I'd like Knight as our backup but I wouldn't give up Luther. And what's so great about Ely. He's getting Stro type numbers on an expansion team. Doesn't excite me.
I love Knight to death. He's one of my favorite players in the whole league. And I really don't want him for the Rockets. Shooters please!
Ely and Stro put up nearly identical numbers, this is true. One difference is body type, in that Ely is 6'10" 261 lbs, where as Swift is 6'9" 230 lbs. Based on that, I like Ely better as a legit backup at center when needed. I also like the fact that Ely shows a little more promise as far as getting better. Stromile has pretty much been stagnant in his growth for 5 seasons now. I hope he can go somewhere and flourish, but I just don't see that place being Houston. I think Ely fits the system better, personally. I don't think that being on an expansion team has much to do with anything, either. I mean, what was Stro playing on for most of this year? Not much more than an expansion team if you ask me.
not one person said anything about his defense! he is one of the best on ball defenders in the league! however, i'm not giving up luther for a 31yo knight.
Why not substitute Rafer for Luther? This gives Charlotte their backup PG and we get to keep Head. I think Knight is a Bobcats captain so he must be something more than chopped liver. Bring his brother back, too!
