Brett Favre throws a dirty block at Eugene Wilson's knees Shame on him, right? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...-a-dirty-block-at-Eugene-Wilso?urn=nfl,186324
I was impressed that the ESPN guys actually commented on it and seemed genuinely angry that Favre did something like that. This is in contrast to the Rockets/Lakers game where Derek Fisher leveled Scola with a shoulder and they were talking about how tough Derek Fisher is.
An evil doing block indeed, favre is lucky that wilson will be Ok. Hearing the post game quoted by ryans, It seemed like the texans wanted blood after that. =) I'm tired of commentators getting all excited when a team goes into "wildcat" formation like it's a new invention. I hope that when we run it, Vanderschaub will call it something different like toro loco. Tired of wildcat! Sorry, I'm on crazy pills..
A QB trying to make a block. It really didn't look dirty to me. It looked like a guy who doesn't block for a living trying to make a block. He didn't spear his knees. My guess is it doesn't even get called if Wilson doesn't get hurt.
Yeah, true that he doesnt block regularly, but anytime you go low on anyone its a cheap/p***y shot. Favre, for his sake, went low because if otherwise, he might risk gettin himself hurt or something if he does a regular tackle. Still tho, thats BS.
I can't wait until defenses start treating QBs who line up at receiver like regular football players; that should effectively end this wildcat craze.
Disagree. You never go at the side of someone's knees. He gets called even if Wilson does jumping jacks immediately after -- there is a rule written *specifically* against *that* block. Favre went down several notches in my book when he did that. I genuinely wanted to see him get hurt, and I've never wanted that for anybody -- not for Cowthugs, not for Neckville Tittans, not for anybody.
Watch lots of football. Obviously it was dangerous. To me it looked like he was trying to go for his mid-section and only went lower because he turned his back to Wilson to absorb the blow. A dangerous play is not a dirty play unless it was intentional. It doesn't look like it was. And nobody would care/notice if a player didn't get hurt.
The penalty was correct, but the flag didn't came out so late I think the official wouldn't have bothered if a player wasn't hurt. I'm not saying it wasn't a bad play, but I don't think it was his intention to hurt the guy, or even make an illegal block. He just looked awkward out there and made a mistake. I understand people don't like Farve, and they hate the way the NFL treats QBs like they are made of glass, but it doesn't make something dirty or cheap in my opinion.
Was it cheap? Sure. Is he a dirty player? Nah. Its Favre come on he wasn't trying to take out Wilson but I agree with those who says it was about him not knowning how to throw a block, ala Trent Green. My only gripe is that if Sage or Tavares makes that same block Goodell might suspened him a game or atleast take a chunk out of there wallet(s) so I HOPE the NFL does the same to Favre.
I believe plenty of people would care. You don't go for people's knees. If you did it "on accident", you're a moron. Brett Favre is like a 35-year veteran or something; by now he knows what he's doing on a football field. Again, it's a documented, dirty, dangerous hit.
The play itself is cheap and dirty. It doesn't need any help from people's opinions concerning Favre or coddled quarterbacks. I was a Favre fan until the second he went for that guy's knees. Inexcusable.
Except they do get hurt from that. Its illegal because its low AND its not coming from the front. Brett came from the side. His inexperience with throwing a block shouldnt matter, you know whats legal and whats not. Its dirty enough to be used as a counterpoint to the whole ugly trent green travis johnson affair last year.
