Kinda surprising. Let the reign of the great Aaron Rodgers begin.

First they trade away a key player on defense now they lose a quarterback of this caliber. The Pack's record might not be so great next year.

Here's a guy who redefined a franchise. Sorry to see him go.

He's gonna either come back...or wish he hadnt retired in the first place. Just last week, he wanted Moss on his team and he was willing to play for more than a year if Moss joined. That shows that he still has that desire to play. Im sure that desires diminishes if you dont have a receiver like Moss, but the desire is there nonetheless.

It's not like his WR's sucked this past year. He has one of the best in Driver and a great emerging talent in Greg Jennings. They even found a running game. I think he's just done. Maybe he just finally realizes how lucky he is to go out on his terms and in relative good health.

Good for him. He will be missed. Like him or hate him, he was always fun to watch.

The Packers were playing out of their minds this season. I think he knows this and would rather go out on top rather than playing another year and going 5-11 or 6-10.

Agreed. It won't and shouldn't impact his legacy, but for him to effectively take his ball and go home after the Packers didn't sign Moss isn't the ideal way to go out.

I'm certainly surprised -- I thought there was no way he'd hang it up with his last pass being that awful throw that Corey Webster picked off to send the Giants to the Super Bowl. The Packers return essentially everyone and are a Super Bowl contender. Odd timing.

Regardless, he was willing to play for at least 2 more seasons if Moss signed. He still has it in him to play.

Whatever happens though, the guy left everything on the field. It was fun watching him through his career.

i never was a huge favre fan but i cannot deny the fact that he was one of the greatest qbs i have ever witnessed play. considering how efficient he was even at the end of his career makes it even more remarkable. hopefully now the packers can give rodgers a shot and create for themselves a new identity

    FTFY.

Sad news indeed. I was a huge fan of Favre. He represented everything that was great about American sports, and he was a great person off the field as well.

Bad news for the NFL, great news for the rest of the teams that play them...

He had a great year last year, and it would be hard to repeat...He may come back as he's been indecisive before...

nah..the Pack had a history and an identity before Brett Farve. There was this guy named Lombardi you might have heard of...another named Starr.

but Favre certainly re-created the identity for a franchise that had been in the toilet for a long time before him.
