A caller to 610 yesterday mentioned to Rich and Charlie that Brent Barry is on the trading block. They both agreed that he would be a valuable assett to the Rockets but weren't sure what it would take to get him. Any ideas?
as long as none of the big three are concerned. the rox are too in to the season to make major chances without effecting the chances of making it to the postseason. it's not like they're a lock or anything.
This is nice ! Houston trades: SF Bostjan Nachbar (3.2 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 0.7 apg in 11.6 minutes) SG Cuttino Mobley (15.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.3 apg in 39.6 minutes) Houston receives: SG Brent Barry (10.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 5.3 apg in 31.5 minutes) PG Ronald Murray (15.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.8 apg in 28.5 minutes) Change in team outlook: +7.3 ppg, +0.3 rpg, and +4.1 apg. Seattle trades: SG Brent Barry (10.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 5.3 apg in 31.5 minutes) PG Ronald Murray (15.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.8 apg in 28.5 minutes) Seattle receives: SF Bostjan Nachbar (3.2 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 0.7 apg in 27 games) SG Cuttino Mobley (15.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.3 apg in 40 games) Change in team outlook: -7.3 ppg, -0.3 rpg, and -4.1 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Murray is insurence in case Barry goes FA.
Mobley for Barry would work, and would clear up space for Barry to start, and for Francis to move to SG. And Omega, the fact the Rockets aren't a lock to make the playoffs is the reason why they SHOULD make a trade. Even if they make the playoffs, they are primed for a quick first round exit with the current roster.
Mobley is the last player that Seattle needs, though. They have a certain someone on their team by the name of Ray Allen who, by all accounts, is a stud SG.
Brent Barry is a FA after this season. I think it would be beneficial to see if we can get him as a FA. It has been mentioned in Denver papers that they are going to go after him as well. They can spend more than the MLE because of their cap room. Barry would be a nice addition to this team in a 3 man guard rotation of Mobley/Francis/Barry.
For defensive implications alone i would NEVER trade Cat for Barry. Persue him in the offseason. then its up to him: Play with Yao Ming or Carmello?
I think Barry is the perfect complement to Francis at the Shooting Guard position. Mobley would be better served coming off the bench and being a scoring threat along with MoTaylor. Barry is a JJ type player that helps the offense continue to move and is a great passer/shooter that will offset Francis' lack of very good playmaking skills. That being said, Seattle is LOADED at the 2-3 spot with Ray Allen/Ron Murray/ Brent Barry/ Rashard Lewis / Vlad Radmanovic. All of these guys are in the wing positions so Barry is expendable. They would not want Cuttino, Nachbar, JJackson or any of the sort. They have Jerome James who is Catoesque, but Cato is a better version. I think they would only take MoTaylor if we took one of their bad contracts. They were VERY interested in Mo before we signed him, though w/ his injury he's quite overpaid right now. With the congestion in their lineup, I don't think they will try to retain Barry in the offseason, and if before the trade deadline they are not doing well, I could see them letting him go for a draft pick or some type of consolation. That is an option, with the other being wait till the end of the year.
Is this the clique that wanted a great pass-first point guard or a different group? Barry is averaging a respectable 5.4 assists per game -- 0.4 less than Francis. Imo, our backcourt doesn't need much tweaking other than a cheap option at backup point guard. It's the forward positions that we need to fix. Why trade for Barry when what we really need is a solid, multi-tasking power forward?
Juan, I basically agre with you. With the addition of Mark Jackson, and asuming he can play 10 minutes a game, I see power forward as our biggest weakness. But, I have to say, our "two headed" power forward is slowly winning me over. Anybody else?
He'd be a great pickup because Steve, Cat and JJ could use someone to give them a rest occasionally but there's nothing Seattle would want we could afford to give them, without causing another weakness elsewhere. This summer would be a great time to pick him up. Just chill the boys are going to be alright.
I don't think we're in desperate need of a trade.. We can play good basketball if we just play smart.. we have the talent.. and if the Rockets need a break in the backcourt, i'm sure piatowski can give a decent 15 minutes a game with some outside plays. We just need to play smart.
I don't think we have anything that would interest the Sonics in a trade for Barry. Getting him would likely require involving a third team. Sonics are looking for the same thing we are: a defensive-minded, rebounding PF with some offensive skills, preferably athletic enough to keep up with the team's running game. Range is a plus. As far as the forward issue, I'd play Barry at point forward with the Rockets and move JJ to the bench. There was a report that Barry wanted to go to San Antonio and the Spurs were interested but ended up signing Ward.
