Which point guard should we get? Brent Barry is three years older than Fisher and Fisher has had experience playing with a big man and good shooting guard (Shaq and Kobe) Fisher also plays good defense while Brent Barry doesn't really. I'm really stuck between which one we should get. what do you think?

Get both! One thing I don't like about Fisher is he will get killed by the Western point guards. And another thing is the Western PGs have absolutely no respect for him whatsoever because he get burned time after time and I have no doubt if he's playing for Houston ...those PGs like Bibby and Parker and Nash are going to exploit the team by running plays against Fisher.

But with that said, i still want Fisher cuz he makes team pay for doubling up Yao and TMac . However, i would like to get both Barry and Fisher to have more weapon arsenals.

Also i want to say that the JVG system is different for Phil Jackson. So Fisher's defense maybe isn't a problem playing for JVG plus Shaq never care to go out to help Fisher during pick and roll whereas Yao will ..so that could be a difference.

Either one would be good, although I'm starting to lean back over to the Brent Barry side. :D

Fisher! More of a true pg, and he should come cheaper than Barry. What about Damon Jones? Fisher and Lue would be fine imo though. The Rockets need a back up for T-Mac though.

I just hope they sign someone quick. I can't take many more of these redundant point guard threads. ;)

The word going around LA is that the Rockets might do a sign-and-trade with the Lakers, the TE for Fisher. That would allow the Rockets to get Barry AND Fisher, and still be able to get a big man. I don't know if it's true (it came from an LA radio personality), but if true, you jump on that, especially if you only have to give up Lue along with the TE, though Lue might not be going anywhere. As long as Fisher doesn't get a ridiculous contract he would be a good pickup!

    Let's see...

    Derek Fisher career stats:

YEAR G GS MIN FG FG% 3P 3P% FT FT% STL BLK TO PF OFF DEF TOT AST PTS
    CAREER 544 -- 23.7 2.6-6.6 .397 0.8-2.2 .368 1.3-1.7 .766 1.03 0.08 1.1 1.7 0.4 1.7 2.1 3.0 7.4

    Brent Barry career stats:

YEAR G GS MIN FG FG% 3P 3P% FT FT% STL BLK TO PF OFF DEF TOT AST PTS
    Totals 595 406 29.6 3.7-8.0 .464 1.7-4.1 .407 1.7-2.1 .820 1.3 0.3 1.8 2.3 0.0 0.6 3.0 3.6 3.9 10.7

Ok, that might be hard to read, so:

Age: Barry 32, Fisher 29 (Barry is 2 1/2 years older)

    Height:
Barry 6'6, Fisher 6'1 - 5 inches more or less can make a huge difference...just ask the ladies!

    Assists per game:
Barry 3.9, but the trend is clearly upwards (almost 6 per game last season, more than Francis), Fisher 3.0 (as a "pure" PG playing with Kobe and Shaq)

    Turnovers:
Barry 1.8, Fisher 1.1 - edge to Fisher

    Field goal %:
Barry .464, Fisher .397 - NOT EVEN CLOSE

    3-point %:
Barry .407 (average of 1.7 per game), Fisher .368 (average of 0.8 per game) - NOT EVEN CLOSE

    FT %:
Barry .820, Fisher .767 - Clear advantage Barry

    Steals:
    Barry 1.3, Fisher 1.0 - advantage Barry

    Overall:
Barry is MUCH better than Fisher.

And don't even bring up the fact that Fisher has rings and Barry does not. Otherwise you would have to seriously argue that Kobe and Shaq would NOT have won those championships if they had had Barry instead of Fisher.

Fisher's #'s last year weren't great b/c of his diminshed role....so it was hard to average the #'s that Barry had when Fisher was playing less minutes......that was one stat you did not mention......IMO I take Fisher over Barry every day of the week, because he plays as hard as anyone every single night, and hits clutch shots time and time again....dont forget that this is a clutch town and we want clutch players.

Those were career stats, not last year's. Last year's would have been even more skewed to Barry's advantage.

This "plays hard" lalala does not impress me at all. Barry is a much better player, period.

If we can get Fisher for the TE...by all means, GO FOR IT!!!

FISHER and BRENT BARRY will solidfy our backcourt rotation. Rox can put Fisher Barry McGrady on the floor during crunch time OR they can play Barry as PG and McGrady as SG and Jim Jackson at SF....there will be a lot of options.

i want the rocs to get fisher. i really think fisher will be a better fit than barry. barry might have an offensive upside compared to fisher, but defensively, fisher is better (( yeah, as bad as it looks, i think flopping is a defensive move nowadays... :( )). we already got an offensive one-two punch of yao and tmac. the thought of teams double teaming yao and tmac leaving either barry or fisher open gives me chills! man, this fisher/barry thing splits me up.. but if we can get them both, THAT'LL BE SO MUCH BETTER! SIGN BARRY, TRADE TE FOR FISHER, SIGN A GOOD BACKUP CENTER! that's it, we're set!

If you look at any one of the other Fisher, Barry, Hudson, etc. threads, the pros and cons of each are already being discussed. Jump into the conversation in any one of those threads.
