What would it take to get Brent Barry, Jon Barry, or Lamar Odom? We need at least one person who can run the offense...Francis has been doing good. But Mobley screws up everything. I don't want Mobley to leave...he would be good off the bench. BUT EVEN KEVIN OLLIE WOULD BE FINE. Of course....we would need some shooters too. That's why we should get Lamar Odom. He perfectly fits our needs!!! Brent Barry would be even better! Glen Rice is incapable of scoring every single night. Mobley is hopeless. Francis has been doing all right...but just can't do it by himself. We need a shooter!!!
Jon Barry would be a much better backup than Moochie Norris. Get rid of Moochie Norris please. Heck.....we can even get the Barry's father!!! I'm not sure if he's living or not....but he can be an assistant coach!! He obviously taught his boys how to play basketball. Rockets are on their way to a 7 game losing streak.
What, you don't think the Rockets have a need for savvy veterans who shoot 40% from behind the arc? Or you just don't think he's a starter? I would love to have Jon Barry, but only as a backup. He's not starting material. I believe he's a free agent this offseason, and I hope acquiring him is something the Rockets look into. Lamar Odom? For the millionth time...no thanks. Plus, he's really not much of a shooter. Brent Barry? In our dreams. I imagine it would at least take Eddie Griffin to get him.
Brent Barry would be great. He has the size to play the 3, he can handle the ball, and shoot which is everything we need. Unfortunately, I believe he is still under contract and since the Sonics also threw D.Mason into the Payton deal they will be very reluctant to lose Barry IMO. Jon Barry is more realistic I think but he could only be a back up SG which would be helpful but I don't think that solves a lot of our problems. That leaves Odom who is a FA (not sure if he's restricted though) who is receptive to the idea of coming to the Rox. He can handle the ball has great size, he is not always looking for his shot, and since he's friends w/ Cat, maybe he could help Mobley improve his shot selection a bit. The only negative is his shooting, I'm not sure if it is that much better than Posey's. Word on the street though is that Sterling (Clip's owner) really likes Odom and might actually pay him to stay but I'll believe it when I see it. Another Clip that I really like is Corey Maggetti. I think he has one more year but w/ the numbers he's putting up he'll be looking to get paid and if they keep Odom and Richardson, CM could be free for the taking. I think that is something the Rox should look at as well.
What? Lamar Odom is not much of a shooter by any stretch of imagination. He needs the ball in his hands to be effective and is more a driver than shooter. What we really need is a pure shooter with range out to the 3 pt line who can moves well off the ball (come off the screen and catch and shoot) as well as spot up shooting to take the pressure off the double teams on Ming/Francis (the 2 main players who should and need to have the ball in their hands). Basically a young Glen Rice if you don't know what I mean. Odom is not the answer. Please stop throwing his name around. I am getting a bit tired explaining this again and again.
Don't get too impressed with Kevin Ollie because Francis makes everybody he plays defense against look better than they really are.
If the Rockets do go the Lamar Odom route, I think the only way it can work is if Mobley is no longer on the team. Having three players on the perimeter in Francis, Mobley and Odom that need the ball along with Yao needing to get his touches is a disaster waiting to happen. If the Rockets cannot get the type of PG they need ie Tony Parker, Eric Snow, Jamaal Tinsley, etc the Odom route may not be too bad if they plug a shooter into the 2 spot that can play off the ball. For instance, I'd be ok acquiring Odom to start at the 3 spot and plugging someone like Eric Piatkowski in at the 2 guard. As far as Kevin Ollie goes.... Ive always liked his game in terms of being a backup PG. Ollie is not great in any specific area but undertands his role in the offense as a distributor and moves the ball around w/o making many mistakes. Ollie has always been a very high Ast to TO ratio type player. This is the type of things you want from your backup PG, not Moochie massaging of the ball.
Here's the reasoning behind Odom. Odom is a pseudo PG. Going after Odom is similar in moving Francis to SG. Theoretically, Odom would take a deal of the "point guard responsibilities" off Steve. In this sense, I think we'd be able to make MUCH better use of Steve as an outside shooter. As MManal said, I don't see Odom, Mobley, and Francis working together. It would probably cost Mobley at least to bring in Odom anyhow. But, if you acquire your shooting SG (either Barry, Piatkowski, or any number of other options), you end up with a couple of big time playmakers in Francis/Odom, and a couple of shooters in Francis/whoever, without sacrificing any size. The Real Shady- Steve's crappy defense aside, Kevin Ollie still leads the league in AST/TO ratio by a pretty wide margin.
Lamar Odom is not a pure shooter. But if you watched the last game between the Clippers and the Rockets which went into Overtime because we got lucky.....Lamar Odom had at least 3 treys. I'm not saying he's Peja Stojakovic.....but he is certainly better than James Posey. He is like James Posey...only a little bigger and taller and better...and more expensive. He would be great...if Francis is having trouble guarding a little pest...we can put Odom on the pest. But we can't afford Odom. PLEASE GET RID OF CUTTINO MOBLEY. Please...
