That's pretty intense. What kind of response do you think we will see from our State Department?

This defiance will probably keep going on long after we are all dead.

Much like the Palestinians' stance regarding what they perceive as their land, the Serbs and their great-grandchildren will never accept the loss of Kosovo. The entire world can impose sanctions on them and they will still persist. Their nationalistic pride is so strong that I would not be the least surprised if Peja himself would be willing to spill his own blood to get it back.

    Ratko Mladić faints.

Serbs have been trying to steal the ethnic homeland of every other group in the Balkans for a couple of hundred years.

Hello pot. You really should be cognizant of what you call the kettle.

Yeah we also stole the ethnic homeland of the Native Americans in the last couple hundred years. That makes them our comrades? :D

First off what the Palestinians perceive as their land was their land 60 years ago. In regard to Kosovo from what I've heard is that is actually the real heartland of Serbian culture so the Serbs are particular sensitive regarding it. I'm not saying I necessarily support the Palestinians getting back all of Israel or the Serbs getting Kosovo just pointing out why there are such sensitivities.

Just to add I also didn't think it was such a great thing to so quickly agree to Kosovo independence while I think the Kosovans have a legitimate gripe bypassing the UN and international procedure I don't think bodes well for a lot of places.

Yeah there's myriad differences b/t the two situations, I was only making the parallel of how strongly both groups feel about the lands in question.

You mention Kosovo and most Serbs will just go on nonstop about how their ancestors gave blood in countless wars for that land and it is inconceivable for them to ever surrender it, etc, etc

I'm not sure where comrades come into anything here.

It means if the Native Americans form up and army, invade the USA and kick our @sses into the ocean we shouldn't throw a tantrum about Indians stealing our ancestral homelands and whine about how we'll never forget.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

^ I'm wondering how different the Serbs are from the Albanians. I've met a few Serbs and Bosnian Muslims and both pretty much say that Bosnian Muslims are pretty much Serbs that became Muslim. From what I've heard too from Serbs is that they view Kosovan Albanians like the Minute Men view Mexicans as that they are mostly illegal immigrants who have been sneaking across the border and have gradually driven out the Serbs. I don't know how valid that is though.

this is the least suprising development yet...but im still praying for this not to escalate. i thought it would though--serbs are not going to give up the cradle of our culture so easily, and i'm not sure how people thought they were going to.

i can deal with people having opinions of serbia that differ from mine. i've had respectful conversations and debates with people like kingcheetah and others who have views and beliefs different form mine. the least you can do is be respectful. i'm not sure what your personal issue is, but you have a significant amount of hate, spite, and bile in your posts about serbians.

it's not even educated debate from you anymore--it's flat out racism.

I don't all the details and history but from what I understand, Kosovo had been mostly Serbian until WW2. And then Nazi forces, who were allied with Albania, drove a large percentage of Serbs out, who were then replaced with incoming Albanians......and later over the decades the Albanian population became a strong majority through both higher birth rates and further immigration from Albania...

If anyone here has a more clear account then please chime in...
