Watching the final 3 plays of the game just shows how much class Moochie has running the point. 3 plays and no passes, just Moochie hogging the ball not letting the reserves have a chance for some stats. Even the commentor on direct TV (from Minn) stated that Moochie had to put alot of extra effort not to pass the ball on one of those final drives. Yes he made 2 of those shots, by driving into 3-4 people, instead of involving his teammates is just selfish. Why does Langhi even show up? Its not like Moochie is going to pass him the ball.
To go along with very little talent. But what does he care, he conned the Rockets into a 23 million dollar contract. CBA starter maybe. Horrible personnel decisions result in horrible teams.
Yea I was pretty pissed off at Moochie... I mean, the people who don't get any time are FINALLY in the game - GIVE THEM SOME SHOTS! The final 3 minutes should have been all plays run through Langhi and Morris or Griffin also. It's bad enough that Mooch is getting a lot of minutes and already taking a lotta shots, but he's also a POINT GUARD, and he's refusing to pass to Langhi and Tmo who usually get a combined half a minute of pt in most games. disgraceful
I have done a complete 180 regarding Mooch. He was my favorite Rockets last year, now the big contract has gotten to his head.
In the end, I really do agree with that. Moochie is a decent player, but he is not worth 23 million. I wonder why the rockets paid him that much money anyway. It is not like any other teams were bidding for his services. The Rockets "jump the gun" on players too early, and it is coming back to haunt them. Cato, Maloney......
Boston trades: Kenny Anderson $8,350,000 to Houston TOTAL: $8,350,000 Houston trades: Moochie Norris $3,600,000 to Boston Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $6,048,000 to Boston TOTAL: $9,648,000 TRADE ACCEPTED Anderson's contract expires in 2003 (along with Rashard Lewis, Brad Miller, Jermaine O'Neal, Zo Mourning, Donyell Marshall) Think the Celtics would be interested?
I'd love it if that deal went down. It could help the Celtics because Cato wouldn't have to do anything, but the problem would be getting Moochie to give up the ball to Pierce and Walker.
I think that Francis and Cuttino have the Houston brass by the balls (no pun intended). IMO I think they had a big influence of the resigning of Moochie. Something is going on because the decisions this organization has made recently have left me to believe that Cat and Wink call many of the shots...... (ie Terrance Morris being drafted... teamate of Wink's)
Isn't that exactly why Moochie is our BACK UP POINT GUARD, not our starter? He was signed to be our "3rd guard". He was expected to get 20+ minutes a game, mostly at the point (backing up Francis, as well as with Francis moving to the 2 and Mobley to the 3). As such, he needs to learn how to play the point. Besides that, he's not being paid like a backup point guard. If players are getting paid $500,000, no one is going to worry about how sucky they are. He's getting paid more than "backup point guard money", so fans expect him to perform like something more than a backup point guard.
Just another bad decision by management. I don't think Francis resigning had anything to do with Norris. I saw a guy by the name of Greg Anthony that was availible for less than Norris. Whom do you think would have had a greater influence with Francis? Who would you rather have running the team with Francis out? Hell, Sean Colson was a backup which is what Norris is anyway. The thing is you can find good backups anywhere and you don't have to pay 4 mill per yr for them. The Rockets have made some bad decisions in the past along with the good ones, but this summer ws the worst i can remember in a long time. Glen,Taylor, and Moochie will kill us for yrs until we can unload them. Hell we could have had Avery Johnson for a couple of yrs for that money.
I never bought into the theory of "he gets paid more then the normal back-up PG he should perform better then the average back-up PG". People are to obsessed with what players are making, it doesn't matter what Moochie makes, it matters what role the Rockets want to use him in. Get paid extra money doesn't add skill to your game, it just locks up the player and hopefully makes him more relaxed about his job security. For some reason though Moochie seems to be MORE anxious this season.
I would love to see his stats (per minutes), compared to the other backup PGs in the league. I would guess that Moochie is near the bottom of the list. No way you could compare him with Tim Hardaway, Bobby Jackson, etc.... As far as somebody mentioning Sean Colson, he was awful. He showed in preseason that he was nothing but a ball hog. Anybody know how Damon Jones is playing?
Not many backup PGs who make 4 mill a year. Tierre Brown will be our backup PG before the All-Star break.
People are to obsessed with what players are making, it doesn't matter what Moochie makes, it matters what role the Rockets want to use him in. Maybe so, but notice that Cato is criticized far more than Collier. Money matters. If Cato was making $500,000 a year, no one would care nearly as much that he sucked. The problem is that he eats up salary space and restricts the Rockets' ability to sign free agents / make trades.
