Captain America dead LINK Living legend assassinated on steps of Federal Courthouse By The Daily Bugle Staff Earlier today, we reported on the attempted assassination of a former superhero. We can now confirm that the victim has been identified as Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America. Rogers was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital due to injuries suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to the shoulder, chest and stomach. Eyewitness reports claim that the initial bullet, tagging Rogers in the shoulder, came from a sniper perched atop or in one of the buildings adjacent to the Federal Courthouse. Several other shots were fired during the ensuing commotion--hitting Rogers in the chest and stomach--but witnesses fleeing the scene, as well as the U.S. Marshals who were escorting Rogers, have stated there was only one sniper shot fired. The identity of the assassin(s), as well as the origin of the other shots, have not yet been revealed. Agents from S.H.I.E.L.D., the FBI and local police are working together on the investigation and have begun combing the buildings in the area. A S.H.I.E.L.D. spokesperson declined to comment on the shooting, and stressed that few details regarding the investigation would be available while it's being conducted. Rogers, a veteran of World War II, thought lost during the close of those hostilities, returned to action decades later and was instrumental in the early days of the Avengers. He had been at the forefront of American superheroics until recently when he openly and violently opposed the U.S. government's Superhero Registration Act. As Captain America, Rogers battled pro-Registration forces last week in Manhattan until surrendering himself to S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. He was on his way to his arraignment when he was struck down earlier today. Rogers has never been married and has no known living relatives. First Spider-man came out (identity) and now this? Marvel hasn't been this bold since they killed off Jean Grey The Death of Superman back in 1993 was pretty huge...
Yeah okay. Comic book deaths are worth about as much as the paper they're printed on. Case in point: http://www.funny-games.biz/animations/24-the_xmen.html
how the f*ck do you kill captain america? you're telling me after everyone he's fought...he got killed by a bullet from a sniper rifle? wow.
I was watching the History Channel about Marvel comics, and how current events influenced the comic books and their sales. During WWII, I think, was when they created Captain America along with other patriotic characters to boost sales while battling the evil communists Red Skull and others (Japanese, is one I can remember)...maybe this is the just another marketing scheme for Marvel.
I found out recently that the fantastic four were based off of people that really existed and their early adventures were influenced by their real ones. They were spies for the US government so some of the stories had to be edited to cover state secrets. and I don't know if its a marketing scheme, I think it was just a slow news day. Comic book companies don't make that much money anymore, especially one that makes more off the movies and licensing.
I read the comic last night. Here's how it went down: Spoiler Capt. America surrendered at the end of the Civil War story arc. He was on his way into court, in handcuffs without his shield and spotted the sniper. He threw himself in front of his guards and got shot. While he was down, during the chaos, one of his guards (a shield agent, his romantic interest, I think..I don't read his comic so I don't know the backstory) shot him point blank with her pistol. It's revealed later that she didn't even know that she did it and it seems like she was under some kind of hypnotic suggestion. I'm not worried. They killed off Superman in the 90's, and they just killed Spiderman a couple years ago, and they both came back to life. Bottom line: people don't stay dead in comics.
Cap'll be back. I mean, for God's sake, they brought back Jason Todd and Bucky!! No one can stay dead anymore (Save for Ben Parker).
What movie? Don't tell me there's ANOTHER movie in the works for Captain America.. Doesn't he already have like... three?
