I hope he's not being rushed up here...but at this point the club stand to have things mixed up - a jolt of some sort - to get this offense going. Seems ages since the team went yard.
Wow, I'm stunned! Didn't he slump horribly after his hot start in AA last year? Damn, I thought they'd give the kid more time.
After Friday night's 4-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Houston Astros have decided to purchase the contract of Triple A Round Rock star Hunter Pence. Pence, who exploded onto the scene in Spring Training with a .571 batting average in 19 games, has continued his dominance at Round Rock and is currently batting .341 with three home runs with 19 RBI through 22 games. Pence will make his MLB debut Saturday night as the Astros newest center fielder. Chris Burke, will know take over as a utility role player. Burke has struggled so far in center field and is sporting a not so hot .219 average with no home runs. "It's certainly asking a lot of a young player, but all the returns from Round Rock have been very positive. I feel very good about this player. We feel like he can come up here and give us some energy and help that process. It can't just be hunter Pence, though. We got to have more production from our lineup than we're getting right now. This is stage 1. Now we have to get some other pieces to get some other players going," stated general manager Tim Purpura. Notes: Pence becomes the fifth native Texan to join the Astros this year joining Jason Jennings, Lance Berkman, Woody Williams and Matt Albers. In 2006, Pence led the Round Rock Express with 28 home runs and 95 RBI. http://www.houstonist.com/archives/2007/04/27/breaking_news_a.php
