...Giff Nielsen just announced that Yao Ming will announce at a news conference tomorrow of his intention of being drafted Number 1 in the NBA Draft. He also said that it looks like FIBA will grant Yao his clearance to join the NBA.

Did anyone else hear this announcement any differently than I did?

Wouldn't be the first time Giff was wrong, but we shouldn't be surprised if that happens. We'll see.

I'm trying to find a link from the KHOU web site to substantiate Giff's report...nothing yet. Will let you know if I find anything.

Agreed. Not sure if I trust Giff Nielson. By the way, can anyone have any less personality than Giff?

I've met Giff a couple of times and he's actually a pretty funny and engaging guy. It just doesn't come off on TV.

Ok, c'mon, This is the same guy who called Luis Castillo, Luis Castilla . Does this guy even watch sports?

The only way Giff Nielson can get a scoop is if he was the guy in that sorry CBS TV Show about the newspaper, "Early Edition"

Channel 11 has the worst sportscasters I have ever seen: Giff, Matt Musial, and that Butch guy. Not sure how these guys are in real life but watching them on tv is just painful. They are like robots.

At least the channel 13 guys once in a while will make a snide remark or look pissed off when Houston teams lose.

I haven't been to Houston in a while so I don't know who is on Channel 2. I just remember that Hockey Bart guy and Craig Roberts were funny.

By the way, Spencer Tillman is a sportscaster in New York right now. I remember that he used to stutter alot and fumble his words when he was in Houston. He sounds better and more polised now than he did before. Not sure why he came to NY, I guess Houston just wan't good enough for him. Okay, I am starting to ramble on so I'll stop.

Welp, so much for Craig Roberts. He got the axe. Chris Wrage is doing his thing now.

The GM sat him down in his office and told him to pack up his crap and take a walk. The next day was a figh between Lewis and Holyfield and there was to be a live interview with Craig and Holyfield that day at the 5p newscast. Roberts asked if he could finish out the day. He was told "NO, not get the "F" out!"

Spencer Tillman was co-host of FOX's Southwest regional sports report when it debuted. Then, Fox sports decided to close the Houston studio and work exclusively out of Dallas. Spencer said no thanks, I can do better than Dallas and moved on. By that time, he had an analyst job on CBS during the weekend.

Yesterday we caught a giant redfish in the oyster beds off the bayous down around the redneck Rivieria. In the belly of this fish was a fortune cookie and a fortune with 6 lottery numbers on it and something scrawled about "he who bring the Ming, would be the King" or some such garbage. It was so washed out it was hard to read. Anyway we lit candles to try and dry it out, it caught fire, and took off like a bottle Rocket, exploding into a rainbow of colors. We were so stunned and mezmerized we took off in a skiff on a midnight run across the bay just to chill out. Using only the stars and moonlight to guide us, it was like some mystic journey. We got back around dawn and did a shoot around until someone missed. We're still playing. Very auspicious. What does all this mean? Pray tell please.

Thanks for the scoop...but, again (if you got the wording right) "I'll be drafted #1" ("I'll be a Houston Rocket" is not what I'm hearing?)

    We shall see.

You're welcome, ROX. I tried to get type down verbatim what Giff was saying, but I might have missed something. We'll find out soon enough!

My experience has been that if only one (and the worst) sports crew in town says it, it is a rumor. If Fox 26 says it, it's a scoop.
