i went to the breakfast with the coach thing this morning at toyota center. after hearing there was some good information last time, i didn't want to miss this one. thanks to texanskan for bringing me along. anyways, pretty amazing experience, there was about 20-25 of us eating lunch in the freaking rockets lockeroom just chatting it up with jvg. i'm not going to post anything that could potentially hurt the rockets or get the thread locked, but being there confirmed what i already thought about gundy. great guy, great personality, and it's really easy to see why his players love him. he was very candid and answered every single question that was asked for a good two hours. a couple things i assume are safe... he stressed shooting A LOT. more than anything else. hates the feeling of open jumpers being missed. someone asked what guys we can look to see improvement from and jvg was really gloating on chuck hayes. best post defender, best rebounder. VERY big on him and said he was actually practicing on the court during the breakfast. hopefully that little bit is ok with clutch and the rockets, but i'm still blown away how cool it was.
I told you Hayes is the best post defender we've got on this team. He uses his body the best, with that low center of gravity and gets his hands on the basketball before the the shooter can raise up and fire.
thanks. lets un-safe it alittle more for us will ya! just joking dont want to get anyone into trouble. Good to see Hayes will get more PT *hopefully*
Good to see that JVG is sane and actually recognize Hayes is our best rebounder as well. Some people on here were actually arguing that Juwan Howard was a better rebounder, because he got more rebounds per game.
yeah if current rockets are fair game there was a lot of talk about the guys we have now. i'll just leave it at this unless clutch says something.
Come on man, this is stuff that we all know. Can't you drop a few hints here and there? As for JVG, he's a good guy. Very funny. And I believe CHuck Hayes made an appearance last week too. It seems as though he's been working on his game every day or something. He's already earned backup PF in front of Stro IMO.
Chuck Hayes, if you're reading this (I know, long shot), please just keep working hard. Particularly on that mid-range jump shot. You master that, and you'll easily be an NBA starter.
God, stuff like that makes me wish I lived in Houston, I would have been at both of these deals. Thanks for posting the info!
