I heard this during the Braves game. I wonder who the Indians are sending to Atlanta.

All the players involved won't be announced until after the Cleveland-Kansas City game tonight.

If Bob Wickman isn't part of the trade, look for Mike Remlinger to take over as the Braves' closer.

ESPN has updated the story. When the Rocker trade was first announced earlier tonight, the Braves had no idea who they would be getting in return.

Ooooh.. Steve Karsay is part of the trade.

In that case, look for Karsay and not Remlinger to be Atlanta's new closer. [IMG]

I don't understand this. Rocker's a jerk, but it's crazy to trade away even a semi-elite closer when you're a contender, which Atlanta is. This trade would only have made sense to me if they had continued to suck...

...I wonder if ZRB now hates Cleveland instead of Atlanta [IMG]?

I've met John Rocker and he is a great player and person. I believe if the media didn't harass him all the time they would see how nice of a guy he is.

I don't LIKE Rocker, but I like the Braves, and I liked having him IN Atlanta. The guy did a pretty good job as a closer, and, come on, who doesn't like watching the guy play? He's completely insane!!! [IMG]

Does anybody know anything about the guys they got in return? I mean, if they're any good? I'm about as casual a baseball fan as you can be, but I'm kinda curious.

This is classic, Rocker screwed himself royally. He tears into New York and no matter where he goes he HAS to face New York! What's worse, Yankee fan is far and away crazier then Mets fan. Poetic justice!

The media didn't make him take shots at jewish people, gay people, people of color, single mothers, AIDS victims and the like. You can't blame the media for Rocker being a bonehead.

Steve Karsay was Cleveland's premier set-up man. He's 29 years old and has been one of the best set-up guys in the league this year. He's expected to close for the Braves. Unfortunately, he's a free agent after this season.

Steve Reed is another set-up guy, but he's only useful when pitching against right-handers.

Statistically, it looks like a bad trade for Atlanta, but the primary reason they did it was to get rid of Rocker's negative off-field presence.

I know the media didn't make him say all those things, but they still only foucs on the Sports Illustrated article. They need to move on and then the media will see he is a nice guy who enjoys playing the game.

Take Allen Iverson for example people said he was a bigot also, but people were able to look past that, and everyone saw that he was an amazing player. I wish the same would happen for him.

The problem with Rocker is that he is STILL doing silly things, his teammates didn't like him (especially Brian Jordan and Chipper Jones), and he was hurting the team with blown saves.

Chipper was quoted as saying that Rocker was "a great closer and an all around good guy in the clubhouse." Chipper Jones had no problems with John Rocker.

Brian Jordan didn't like him and called him "a cancer."

    fadeaway,

I keep seeing an interview with Chipper Jones, that I assumed happened last night, where he said that going out every day for the last two years worrying about what he was going to do was starting to wear on him.

I think he's happy he was gone.

On a side note, maybe Rocker's been hanging out with the Braves' announcers too long. Today, they showed a fan in New York who had placed a towel under his hat to block the sun, and one of them said, "There must be an OPEC meeting in town". Nice.

And he only blew 4 saves in 23 chances

Blowing 4 saves is a lot for a closer for a championship team, especially for a guy like Rocker who, if he isn't blowing saves he is putting himself in dangerous position to do so by walking guys, or giving up key hits. The only reason Chipper Jones called him an all-around good guy was because they knew they were stuck with him. Once he was gone, his true feelings came out. If you looked at them during interviews you could tell they were holding back their true feelings.

There's a New York team in both the American and National Leagues.

How would it be possible to avoid facing New York...?

Well, aside from demoting him to the minors, I guess...

Speaking of those guys, I love the way they always rag on the umpires when they make bad calls. They strike me as a couple of laid back, ordinary guys who tell it like it is. I like them.

They're obviously biased toward the Braves, but they're up front with it, so it's okay.

And who said commentators had to be completely objective and impartial anyway? [IMG]
