From Houston Chronicle, Sunday, April 29, 2001:

Braves center-fielder Andruw Jones after being charged with two errors Tuesday night at Enron Field: "It's a sorry field. The grass is not good. It's like turf. I didn't touch the ball. It bounced over my head. I don't think it's an error."

    Excuses, Excuses, Excuses!!!

Didn't he trip over the hill last year, or something like that?

I seem to remember someone tripping on the hill last season, but I do not think it was him.

The Braves will be using a lot of excuses this year, as they fall from their stay at the top.

Yes, Jones did trip on the field last year. He was the first person to have to field a pop up on it. He started to run up it, and then slipped and didn't catch the ball.

However, he was hit another one in the same game, but he fielded the second perfectly.

Let me get this right. He's upset because the grass is, well, grass? He would prefer, what, ... Astroturf?

Man, this guy has been in the major leagues for too long. [IMG]

Yeah, Turner Field - converted from Olympic Stadium is much better!

When will Enron Field get the All-Star Game so that we can showcase our stadium like the Braves did last year?

I think a player like Jones that makes a bad play can make excuses, he is one of the best afterall.

Last I heard, the Astros were trying to get the 2004 All-Star Game. Don't know when the decision will be made by MLB (or if it has already).

Just because you are a good defensive player does not mean that you are allowed to make excuses when you do make mistakes.

He should accept responsibility for the errors that he does make. That is the mark of a true superstar.
