After watching the game against Portland last night, I witnessed possibly the worst special "star" treatment from the refs to Brandon Roy.. granted the guy is a good player, has a nice jumpshot, and can drive to the basket, but the dude got absolutely nothing on Iguodala .. He is just an average NBA player who gets unbelievable calls from the refs..

Now, remember that my assessment of him is only based on this 1 game he played against us, so it might not be really fair.. so my question is for those who live in the portland area/have league pass and watch him on a regular basis: Does he always get these Wade-like phantom fouls calls?? if he does, I gotta say that he is the most overrated player in today's NBA and Charles Barkley would reach an even higher idiot status..

maybe u should watch more than one game before making assesments.....................Brandon Roy is the truth....and I'd say that if he's not currently better than AI2 that he certainly will be in the future........

What phantom calls did he get?

Rockets fans seriously whine way too much.

i didn't really notice any special treatment at all for roy.

he's a great shooter, he can attack the basket, and his court vision is fantastic. there's no chance i'd take iguodala before roy.

I didnt think he got phantom calls. It wasnt him that Yao sidestepped and got called for a foul. I think he has less contact allowed than averaged. Meaning there are less "no-calls" on plays that involve contact. Similar to D-Wade.

he gets all the way to the base line and gets stuck under the basket with no where to go, so he just jumps into Yao, without even looking at the basket, and throws the ball towards the freethrow line.. this was just ugly to see..

he drives baseline, Battier right on him, he can't do anything to he throws his hands up and gets the foul called, 2 freethrows..

he shoots an impossible hanging shot, sees that there's no chance for it to go in, drops to the ground like someone hacked the crap out of him, gets the call, 2 freethrows..

From what I saw this one game, the guy is really getting way too much hype for his very average play.. granted, the guy is just in his second year, but gosh, I don't need Barkley, Kenny, and the ESPN nation telling me that he should be a starter for the all star game..

and yes, I would take Iggy over him any day; he has great elevation on the shot, he can drive effortlessly to the basket, and his defense is very underrated (remember the crazy wingspan)..

People get sick about the Gay-Battier trade, but I get sick when I know Roy was our target and Portland outfoxed us to get him.

That was a foul on Yao, he jumped into Roy.

Rafer got a similar call on a fast break.

Was it a foul or not?

Average play? You're overreacting to the hype and so you are blind to how good he really is.

Roy is not getting "star" treatment more than what he deserves. He is one of the top guards in the league today and the refs should cut him some slacks.

Roy is a star. Didn't you see how Portland was guarding McGrady the same way the rest of the league guards Roy?

The aggressive players always get the benefit of the calls.

I wish Brandon Roy was a Rocket.

Lock this up please. This could get ugly. Brandon Roy is for real. It's not a fluke that every person out there last year was saying that he was the most NBA-ready rookie in last year's draft. And it's also not a fluke that the Rockets tried everything in their power to get him last year.....and almost did. Take off the Rockets-colored glasses for a couple of seconds, and actually watch him play objectively. Either that, or don't comment after watching him play for 1 game.

I watch the Blazers often and Brandon Roy is an amazing player. He can hit the 3 pointer, the mid-range jumper, can get to the rim, elevate and finish with either hand. Some of the shots he's hit late in games will make your mouth drop. He's also a very intelligent player who makes good decisions with the ball.

I suggest you don't use just one game to form an opinion about a player. Even if you use last night's game by itself, calling Roy "just an average NBA player who gets unbelievable calls from the refs.." is crazy. What game were you watching?

Average players don't put up 19.3/4.5/5.6 in their 2nd season.

    from my original post:

before all the r****ded attention whoring egomaniacs out there unleash their anger at me, read the f#$%in post carefully.. I acknowledged that my assessment wasn't fair, and the whole reason for the post was to ask people that know better than me (with the luxury of league pass) to help me correct my stance on this player..

from watching the ROckets game (the only game I've watched him play this season), I think he isn't that special... that's just from what I saw in this one game.. and he DID get star treatment, which IMO isn't fair for a 2nd year player regardless if he was Michael Jordan or Dr. J.. you can't just come in the league and get treated like a star right away, you have to earn the respect.. but I guess this shows the new low today's game has reached ..

and I stand by my opinion that the foul call on Yao was B.S and neither Kobe nor Tmac would've gotten that call, at least not a 2-shot foul.. and the foul on Battier was B.S too, and that hanging shot foul was a no-call too...

and no, I don't have ROckets colored glasses.. I actually don't think Yao is officiated that badly, and I blame both Tmac and Yao's lack of aggressiveness for not getting calls.. I was objective in my assessment of this one damn game (notice I said this ONE game), the tools that get their knowledge from what ESPN feeds their squirrel-sized brains are the ones that aren't objective and just ride the hyped up "stars" jocks..

If you are whining about the play I'm thinking of, Yao clearly jumped into Roy and made the mistake of not going straight up. That was a good call.

thank you, A_3PO, that's all I was asking for, some one who actually watched more Blazers games that I did and can offer a fair assessment based on a broader set of games... I guess this 1 game I watched was uncharacteristic of him and I guess he isn't overrated after all..

look, I fully acknowledge that this 1 game wasn't representative of his overall play, but saying that he was great an that game isn't acceptable..

he scored 23 points on 9-17 shooting, good percentage, but he got 6 freethrows that were complete B.S (yes, I stand by my earlier positions, the calls were utter B.S), this made it super hard for our defense to effectively stop him because they couldn't lay a hand on him.. he got only 2 rebounds and 2 assists, which isn't really characteristic of a "great unbelievable super duper all around player" as Charles Barkley described him.. now the biggest part: he has 5 turnovers.. for a "very mature player", this doesn't compute..

his overall +/- for the game: -1

for the record, Rafer the Wafer Alston was +1 for the game..

I didn't see much of his "clutchness", as he faded down the stretch and didn't come through for his team.. we practically shut him down in the 4th quarter when it counts..

again, 1 game means nothing, but if we were looking at only this 1 game, he is nothing great..
