Lately I have been noticing that when I brake, I feel a jerk coming from the back of the car. What can this be? I have a certified warranty on the car, but if the warranty won't cover, then I'm sure it'll be costly to fix at the dealership.

Anyone have this problem before? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Really? I didn't know that rotors could make a car jerk. Too bad rotors aren't covered by the dealership :(

A jerk? Sorry I didn't completely read your post, hehe. When you apply your brakes the rear of your vehicle jerks? I misread that as your steering wheel was just shaking for some dumb reason (just woke up). If it jerks around...could be bad brakes with uneven wear? Bad brakes would warp your rotors...so if you need to replace the brakes, you need to either resurface the rotors or install new ones. This might not have anything to do with the brakes/rotors. There could possibly be a problem with your suspension or some other part. It's very hard for me to diagnose a problem w/o actually being in the vehicle since Im just a weekend mechanic and not a professional.

What type of vehicle is this btw? I only have experience with fwd vehicles...not too sure how different it would be for a rwd vehicle.

I've had so many car problems as of late, I wish I would just get out of school and become an auto mechanic. So frustrating

The car is a 2003 Lexus GS300. It's weird that the car does that. Whenever I'm about to stop at a light and I brake a little hard, it seems as if my trunk area jerks.

I don't want to take it to the dealer until I am fairly confident that the problem will be covered by the certified warranty. If I take it and they find that the problem is not covered, then they will charge me an arm and a leg. Even if I don't fix it with them, they'll probably charge me an arm and a leg for diagnosing it.

Finally my honest mechanic shop turned into a scammer. 530 to replace rotors, drums and brakes. But somehow I passed the inspection. Take this L Northside donestics.

I just discovered rockauto.com. I bought rotors and pads from them. Prices are hard to beat and the way they do their selection is nice you pick you car and they display the type of pads based off light duty, medium, heavy, and sport. They charge shipping but you can google a 5% off coupon. Also they sell wipers super cheap.

That doesn't sound terrible. I paid 300 for quality rotors and pads and then 180 to have them put on my wife's Van.
Update. Saw you only did front. Mine was all 4

Damn on those prices....I'm glad I do my own work.

Is it only one jerk when you feel it or is it jerk jerk jerk until you stop. That's what a warped rotor feels like. Overheating the brakes can cause that.

If its one jerk, it could be a faulty piston in the calipers.

If the rotors are warped, they are not hard to replace.

Neither are brakes to be perfectly honest. Usually two bolts per caliper.

Drums were more difficult, but still not terribly hard.
