Let me preface this by saying that if this topic is TOO racially sensitive, then I apologize! It's not meant to offend, but rather answer a question that's REALLY been bothering me the past couple of years. You know about the phenomenon known as brain freeze, right? When you eat ice cream or something else really cold too fast, and you get this immense pain that shoots through your head and eventually goes away? I always got it bad with slurpees and stuff like that. Well, I've gotten brain freeze all the time, but of the African-American friends I have, none of them have ever gotten it. Right now, you might be saying, "Huh?" as I have as well. Also, bear in mind that the number of people I've asked isn't exactly in the hundreds or thousands by any means. However, I was just curious, if you or your friends have ever experienced brain freeze? If not, what race are you? This sounds like a science project gone awry....Like I said, I'm not trying to offend anyone, but rather scratch a "scientific itch" of curiosity.... I'm caucasian, by the way, and if you've never experienced brain freeze, you are extremely lucky!
I say you need to apply for a research grant and get to the bottom of this whole brain freeze thing and it's affect on different races. I'm sure there's some government agency or non-profit willing to fund this important research.
ba dump bumb (rimshot) A brainfreeze happens when the arteries in your neck get really cold while you swallow ice or whatever. Then the cold blood surrounds and flows through your head. I don't see how it could be different between races. The fastest way to get rid of a "brainfreeze" is to put your hands around your neck to help warm the arteries.

How the heck do you know this. Did you read this in the New England Journal of Medicine, maybe you learned this in medical school, or did someone tell you this when you were in the 5th grade. I would be interested to know if this is just a theory of yours or do you have facts to back it up.

I read an article on a plane about 3 years ago about brain freezes. It said that brain freezes are caused by the back of your throat coming into contact with cold. It requires a fairly sustained contact to cause a brain freeze. A lot of it is in how you swallow the cold thing. I'll see if I can find anything else on it.

I'm not very black but I do get brain freezes. So do my brothers. Since we're all mixed, perhaps we get it less intensely than others. I suppose more money will have to be given to research the subject

No, he was implying that they were smarter than him and didn't pig out on the frozen beverage, thus avoiding the brain freeze. I've always been convinced that it's the blood that gets too cold. Then when it reaches your scalp is where you feel the pain. I never thought about ways to relieve it - usually because nothing warm is around.
