    Divest from Israel

"I am a black South African, and if I were to change the names, a description of what is happening in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank could describe events in South Africa."
    ~Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Instaed of just wringing our handsand hoping for peace in the Middle East. A boycott and divestment movement helped greatly with the analogous situation of the stubborn whites in South Africa.

It's ok to impose sanctions upon Iraq, blockade Lebanon, and withhold Palestinian entitlements, but a boycott of Israel or any other economic pressuring should clearly be seen as yet another outright attempt by the world at destroying Israel.

People can decide where what products they wish to buy. Americans boycott american companies all the time and it's not "another outright attempt by the world to destroy Israel." it's just a way of saying "hey I don't like your current policies and I'll take my dollars else where".

What could be wrong with that?

Numerous Churches and religious organizations around the world have already undertaken similar steps. I believe the Presbyterian Church in America was one of them.

Hers is a list of companies:

    http://www.globalexchange.org/countries/mideast/palestine/usinvestments.html

I don't see the world boycotting Microsoft anytime soon.

Sun Microsystems - They do Java right? Do we have to ban the Rockets chatroom?

NBA - Franchise Operation (Elite Ltd., Lodzia Rotex Textile Ltd., Modan Industries Ltd., Palphot Ltd., Paradise Mattresses Ltd.)

    Is that THE NBA?

    Subway - Franchise Operation
Taco Bell - Franchise Operation (Clal Trading).

Oh Jared and stuffed Gorditas are destroying Lebanon!
    What's next? reruns of Seinfeld?

this strategy is as good as letting David Robinson guard Hakeem 1 on 1.
this strategy is as good as leaving Robert Horry wide open in the final minutes.

Humor aside. Divestment definitely convinced the Afrikaners to accept a pluralistic society in which they were not in the majority. I think that this could happen in Israel, especially if they realize that being a pariah nation that flaunts international law and modern non exlusionary policies hurts their standard of living. I think that most young Israelis want to lead normal lives, though as we see in this country the old politicos are frequently willing to sacrifice their lives.

Comparing Israel to South Africa is like comparing a doorknob to a fish.

Nonsensical. But, if it made sense, so what? If there was yet another attempt by the world at destroying Iraq, you wouldn't bat an eye, but if it's Israel that's automatically wrong? Does that make sense?

Tigermission, are you sure about the PCA? That would surprise me very much.

Yeah, let's boycott Israeli made and supported products, one of the very few allies we have left in the world and the only one in the Middle East. What do you propose we do to Hezbollah?

    Heck of an idea.

Well I think the neocons in Israel like that idea that Israel "one of the very few allies we have left in the world", but is that really good for the US?

I don't actually think that is true about the US having virutally no allies, but it may be true that we just about the only ally left for Israel, who insists on being a pariah.
