Imagine what life could have been like. You'd maybe have gotten a real job, etc.

    Short version: 'lawyer'...

Seriously, though, do you ever consider going another way with your career? You seem so human on here, it's a shame to waste it.

sure i do. i just went to this big church conference in Chicago, and at times feel really compelled to go into ministry. particularly after an event like that.

but my job is my ministry...my profession needs people who scream for integrity...who tells their clients the hard truth that life isn't solved with money...that suing everyone isn't in their best interests...that sometimes you have to eat dog crap and be the bigger man. we have 5 attorneys here (3 of us are partners) and 3 staffmembers...i love bringing in people, building them up and preparing them for their careers..particularly young people just looking for an opportunity. in many ways, i think i'm right where i need to be..right in the thick of it.

I agree. If you manage to hold onto your integrity, stay where it's needed most.

So how does one explain this other than divine intervention?

All the way until they prepared his funeral, no one noticed the kid was still alive?

I mean, the kid is being tossed around as a body, no one noticed?

I guess I don't know from divine intervention, but here's something on the macabre side of things that I just had to include here... it is strictly hearsay, but makes you wonder... came from a Fantagraphics comic book I have:

    "Facts from the 1500's...

"... Lead cups would be used to drink ale or whiskey; the combination would sometimes knock them out for days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait to see if they would wake up (the custom of holding a "wake"). They would reuse the coffins and graves. When reopening the coffins 1 out of 25 was found to have scratch marks on the inside. To stop people from being buried alive they tied a string to the wrist of the corpse, up through [a pipe in] the ground to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the "graveyard shift") to listen for the bell. Thus someone could be "saved by the bell." Or was considered a "dead ringer."..."

Hey, I don't make 'em up, I just report 'em... I wonder where this person got this info... maybe family oral history or something....? THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE...

Hey, maybe it's like that movie/book I didn't see/read (but heard about) -- The Serpent and the Rainbow -- this guy was in Haiti or Brazil or somewhere, and these native folk had a "zombie" drug that he was given, and (I've read about it elsewhere, so I think it may actually exist) this drug will simulate death very convincingly for a number of days, but then the person will snap out of it and be fine again... don't let your kids get hold of that one...

I think I remember reading a Batman comic where Batman used that drug to fool some villainous types...

OK, y'all can get serious again now... though I was serious about not letting your kids take drugs that simulate death... and Ritalin's not all it's cracked up to be, either... at least not the way it's being prescribed so haphazardly...

back to my lead cup of ale...
