So many wrong things with this story...

Can we at least teach and respect handling and storing firearms?

A lot of Macho guys like to have their gun set in plain view in their house. I have no guns, if I get one i will be cursed.

Oh, bull****. The NRA has a program, Eddie Eagle, for teaching kids safe handling of firearms. They would love to bring it into schools so that children would learn to be safe around them, but because soccer moms and the like are convinced that their precious darlings will be the next Harris and Klebold the minute they touch a gun, they're not allowed.

Hey kids, we are against every gun xyz. As a 5 yr old, you need to understand the beauty of gun operation.

At 8 years old playing with my friends, some kids came up to me and aimed at me with a gun and pulled the trigger. Me being a kid just said wtf and kept playing.

The kid was 5. Let that sink in. He's only started reading.

How about teaching the ADULTS proper ways of storing & securing their firearms?

Or they are afraid their 5 yrs olds will think "hey, I've seen this before and know how to use it" and end up shooting someone. Have you ever been around a 5 yr old? Do you think they are going to learn gun safety?

Are 5 year olds even strong enough to pull a trigger? I thought triggers are pretty stiff on all guns.

Ever heard of a "hair trigger?" Don't get me wrong, my S&W has a very heavy trigger (~11 lbs), but that is easily modified with a new spring.

There is no program that could teach 5 year old's to be safe around guns. There is a reason why we don't even let 5 year old's use real scissors.

Why post this thread? There's nothing to debate and I didn't even want to open the thread, but I get a shiver every time I see the title.

Remember when 20+ 6 and 7 year olds were gunned down just before Christmas in 2012? We couldn't have a legitimate conversation at that point, so it'll probably take a triple-digit number for people to actually have the courage to stand up to the gun lobby.

Not even. It's too far embedded.

I can't even imagine how the fight against slavery was (not comparing it to gun control) and how hard it must have been to get Southerners to adapt and change.
