These charts show game-by-game performance for our 10 rotation players, based on the boxscore. Of course, the boxscore doesn't tell you everything, but its something. I'm using Hollinger's Game Score metric, defined as: Game Score = PTS + 0.4*FG - 0.7*FGA - 0.4*(FTA-FT) + 0.7*ORB + 0.3*DRB + STL + 0.7*AST + 0.7*BLK - 0.4*PF - TOV It was designed to rate a player's performance within a game, but also I think can serve as a convenient shorthand to gauge performance over a series of games. Here is roughly (in my opinion) what the ratings correspond to if playing starter minutes, but again you have to use your judgement on the other things the player brings to the table that aren't in the stats: Code: > 20 - superstar level 15-20 - allstar level 10-15 - starter level 5-10 - bench level < 5 - out of rotation The bars show the players game score ratings each game, and the dotted line is their game score rating, per 36-minutes, over the previous 5 games played. Budinger has been amazing lately ... <table> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table>
It's interesting how McHale's use of the bench reacts to the performance metric of when the starters are on a decline...or just entered one.
Budingers impact ratings have been great for 2 years now, but they have really taken off with his monster performances of late. His help d and rotation have always been spectacular, and he spreads the floor, even passive Chase. If his on ball d was better, he'd be a defensive monster, but he ends up being only a neutral defensive player. Aggressive chase is a monster.
Thanks durvasa. It's interesting that we were able to win our last 3 games even though our center play was so poor according to this stat.
I'm glad Bud's benching lit a fire under his ass. You would have that a contract year would be enough.
Lin doesn't have enough games to make a chart like this. For the others (note the scale on the axes are different): <table><tr><td></td><td></td></td> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> </td> </tr> </table>
nice stats, thanks durv. wow noticed Parker's scale is 35, he is really balling with Manu out. i think the chart shows us our players intensity level is still not consistent but the good news is despite of that, we are still winning. its like the starters are taking turns sucking some of the time but the bench covers the slack made by them. could it be the coaching? the unusual schedule caused by the lockout? whatever it is, we need to reach a consistent level as a team
Wow. Really excellent stuff as usual Durvasa. I think it would be interesting to tease out a more micro view - player performance by quarter ?
Thanks Durv, looks like Chris Paul and Nash were the only ones to consistently hang around the all-star to superstar level.
Lin's no joke! Before these last 5 games, Lin's boxscore rating was 17.6 per 36 minutes for the season in (very) limited playing time (54 minutes). Can't read much from that, but still worth noting.
