I have been pumped for this fight ever since it was announced. I'm a fan of Taylor, but Pavlik has to be my favorite fighter to watch these days. He has big time knockout power and should give Taylor a hell of a battle. Jermaine really hasn't progressed like most people hoped he would after the wins against Hopkins, so he has something to prove with this fight. I'm predicting Pavlik wins in a late TKO.
Well in this fight, ONLY bet on the white guy. Jermain has had weak showings in fights recently. I don't think his chin has ever been tested like it will be tonight. Pavlik has an iron chin, he proved it against knockout puncher Edison Miranda. He took Miranda's best punches but it never slowed him down. Pavlik is hungry and I predict a 7th round KO. Unless of course Jermain fights smart and keeps him at a distance and uses the jab and goes to the body when he is inside. Regardless, it will be one hell of a fight.
If the Jermaine Taylor who showed up against Corey Spinks shows up tonight, Pavlik will eat him alive. If the old JT shows up, it will be close, but Jermaine will win. I'm with my lady tonight, so I'm DVR-ing it to watch after the Texans game tomorrow.
unbelievable through 2 rounds, where have they been hiding this Taylor dude? and more unbelievable that pavlik is still standing.
This was a great fight. Hopefully there will be a rematch soon and JT regains his title. Keep your head up, Jermain, your home state is proud of you.
Great fight. Pavlik showed tremendous heart by continuing after that barrage in the 2nd. Taylor looked much crisper tonight than he had in recent fights, and I honestly thought he had it won and then Kelly just brought down the hammer. Looking forward to a rematch.
Nights like tonight should remind people that boxing is not dead. Fighters are starting to step up and fight each other and producing some fantastic matchups. There was more action in the two fights tonight than in either of the Rampage/Henderson or Lidell/Jardine matches, and that's not a knock in MMA, it's just to say that each can be great on its own merit. If you are not a huge fan of the sweet science, but like good sporting events, you should really do yourself a favor and watch the replay of the fights tonight and the upcoming schedule which is dynamite. Oct 6 Pacquio-Barerra II Oct 13 Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz (Houston Kid) vs Julio Diaz for the unified Lightweight title Nov 10th Sugar Shane Mosely vs Miguel Cotto (The undercard is excellent also) Dec 4th Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton Begin selling platelets now if you can't afford the pay-per-views... Incidentally, Emmanuel Steward and Bob Arum, who have plenty of history in the game, both called tonight's fight, one of the greatest middleweight fights of all time...Arum went so far as to call it 2nd to Hagler/Hearns...I wouldn't take it that far, but that was 7 rounds of heart pumping action.
Kelly showed a lot of heart, but JT was in the corner way too much. He was getting away with it, but it finally got to him.
It wasn't on PPV, it was on regular HBO. If you have HBO just check the listings, I'm sure they will be replaying it again soon.
