http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news/ap/20021018/ap-mavericksfined.html I don't get it. You can't work out people in Yugoslavia? WTF?
it's similar to when the cavs got in trouble for letting lebron james practice; no cherry pickin on ineligible guys below minimum age
I understand what the NBA (David Stern) is saying however it's complete BS. Donnie isn't over there recruiting for the Mavs. He's over there trying to teach the International players the game of basketball. What Donnie has done over the last 10 years has helped the NBA. He has help increase the talent pool. By prohibiting Donnie from helping these kids out David Stern is setting the NBA back by at very least 10 years.
According to the article, Cuban said they were not there teaching the kids, but OBSERVING. I don't know about teaching. It might amount to "working out" prospects. But you can't even observe? Scouts are not allowed to watch a Junior high standout, for example, play basketball? Of course, what Cuban said might not be totally true either.
yeah, maybe they didn't do anything wrong, I don't know the whole story so I can't say. The internationals look like theyre doing ok on their own though, as they kicked the ass of team usa this summer. setting the league back 10 years is a bit of an exagggeration.
Well, whatever the rules are, they can be bent or broken. If someone's not allowed to scout a not-yet-eligible player, then they certainly can't observe. It would be too easy to meet with/talk to that player and grab'im with a 2nd round pick (when they do become draft eligible), etc etc. Funny how the NBA cracks down on some things, looks the other way on others.
