Boozer don't want none of this <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q312/SeanJohn77013/scola.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> More to come next season b****!!!!!!!
Haha. It seems he also gave Jermain O' Neal and Elton Brand lessons. Come on... he is the best player outside the NBA, best power forward outside the NBA... I still cannot believe we got this trade.
We'll see how he pans out, I hope he fits in the NBA system. I'm the best PG outside the NBA that lives in my street.
so ,this year , we are still playing the Jazz in the 1st round? and if so, scola is a 2nd round guarantee? Scola is really good and maybe that is why the Spurs dont want him ...
Uh, the Spurs don't want him because they can't afford him. And they definitely can't afford his buyout only to see him sit on the bench behind Duncan.
I don't know of Scola will pan out or not, but there's no indication that the Spurs didn't want him. I don't know if it's that the Spurs didn't want to bring him in and pay a ton of money just to put him in line behind Duncan et al (as was already mentioned) or if Scola didn't want to be put in that position. Either way, I don't think it says anything about whether or not the Spurs wanted him. On a side note, I really don't think they have an interest in VSPAN. I think they're counting on the fact that he wants out. That's precisely why they traded for him.
BOOzer and O'neal have it coming to them...i cant wait to see the looks of the Jazz face when they see the wrath of SCOLA!
I haven't really watched this guy but if he is the best player outside the NBA...good for him. But there's probly a reason why he was OUTSIDE THE NBA.
I don't know much about the guy but I am very excited considering the things I've heard. However, a certain Greek PG that just went home to mommy destroyed team U.S.A. last summer yet could not even hold a real NBA player's jock once he came over here. Let's not put unrealistic expectations on the guy just yet.
Clutchfans is full of pessimistic fans... Cheer up a bit and have a bit of hope at least smile. Gosh.
there are a few. see other pages long threads which all explain fairly clearly: The Spurs owned his rights if he were to play in the NBA. The Spurs will not willing to trade those rights away (until now). The Spurs couldn't afford him in the past as he had a much higher buyout than he does now AND he would have been sitting on the bench behind Duncan. The Spurs have retained everyone from their championship team from last year and they could not afford, or have a spot open, for Scola. The Spurs have stated that they felt they owed it to Scola to give him a chance in the NBA and they also needed to reduce some salary so this trade did both of those. This probably makes Manu and Oberto happier too, as their friend has had a lifelong dream of playing in the NBA while the Spurs have been trying to save money yet refusing to trade him so that he can play for someone else.
Yes, there was a reason, buy it wasn't the one you were thinking - the fxxking Spurs held him hostage for 5 years!! They didn't have the money (huge buyout before last year) and postion for him, and didn't want to trade him to anybody because they knew he is so good. Scola wants Spurs to die.
Like Brockstrapper said, Scola's history has been comprehensively explored in various threads on this BBS, chiefly in the thread "V-Span traded for Luis Scola". Eventhough it is 50 pages long, I would strongly suggest you go through it to get an idea as to why fans are so hyped up about him (despite him NOT having played in the NBA). If you really want a summary, here is quickest version I can think of (adding to your summary Brock ): Luis Scola was drafted in the second round of the 2002 NBA draft at the young age of 22. At that time, he was already acknowledged as a significant player and a very good catch by the Spurs at a very low pick. The Spurs however could not afford his buyout because his then club wanted $15 million USD for his buyout. Spurs said OK, let's keep him at his old club for awhile. In the following years, Scola's buyout amount started to decrease. It went down to $3 million USD last year. He really wanted to come to play in the NBA. Yet, the Spurs were unwilling to pay him a sufficient amount of salary (in the $10 million USD range for 3 years) necessary for him to buy himself out of his contract. They also stated that they would be unable to offer him significant minutes to the presence of one Tim Duncan at power forward. The Spurs also couldn't wait for him to finish his contract at his old club in the 2007/2008 season. Therefore, they went out and acquired Scola's good friend, Fabricio Oberto in the 2005/2006 season. Please therefore, remember that Fabricio Oberto was essentially Scola's replacement!!! Naturally, this did not go down well with Scola, who felt that the Spurs were holding him back from joining the NBA. He demanded a trade. Spurs wanted to trade him for a first round pick, but no team wanted to do this deal due to the prohibitive buyout price. Unfortunately, this did not help the relationship between the Spurs and Scola, which soured to the point that he publicly announced that he refused to ever play for the Spurs. This happened before the start of the 2006/2007 season. This year (end of 2006/2007 season) would have been a contract year for Scola. His old club (Tau - champions of the Spanish league) had put a contract offer for 5 years worth 13 (or 15) million Euros on the table for him. Spurs knew that he would never sign for them. They also knew that if they wanted to acquire something in return for Scola, they would have to do the deal before 15th July 2007, or Scola would be forced to accept Tau's offer by then. Needless to say, all attempts by the Spurs to trade Scola to the East fell apart. This was probably due to the fact that they wanted to dump other salary contracts on these teams, but it was definitely NOT for lack of suitors. The Spurs were therefore, forced to trade with the Rockets, who were willing to take a salary dump off the Spurs. And today, Scola is going to be a Rockets player. In the meantime, Scola has really blossomed into a professional player since his drafting 5 years ago. He has been acknowledged as the top power forward playing outside the NBA, and one of the top (if not THE top) players currently not in the NBA. He was also the second best player on the Argentine national team (behind Ginobilli and ahead of Nocioni, Uberto, Herrmann, etc.). He is said to be NBA ready in every way (body, play and maturity) with some saying he is potentially starter material. And that is why the media and pundits are saying that trading a 2009 second round pick for Scola made the entire deal AN ABSOLUTE STEAL! I hope the above summary could convert your pessimism to one of optimism for the coming season. The my fellow BBSers, please feel free to correct me if I have made any mistakes in fact or in expression above, and I would thankfull stand corrected.
man i want to play the jazz so bad again the playoffs. we will beat them in 5-6 this time dammit. boozer killed us and scola can shut him down while hayes guards okur. but idk where that would put yao in that rotation if we do play them
Taking Yao out of the lineup is suicide. Defense really wasn't such a problem against Utah, scoring points was, and without Yao the Rockets will struggle even more to score points. If matched up against Utah I would try a zone, and if that doesn't work well I'd switch up the coverages on Boozer, have Yao guard him for a spell, then Hayes, then Scola, kind of what Utah did with McGrady.
Excellent post bud. Why don't you start a new thread with it so that anyone can see it? People have no patience to read through 50 pages
Boozer doesn't want any of this [referring to blocked shot]. Please correct and turn in by the end of class today.
Saying he is the best player outside the NBA is kind of a stretch. Yes, he is the best PF. The thing is, Jasikevicious was the best PG outside the NBA... and he didn't show anything in the NBA. So we will have to wait and see. If you ask me, I think Scola will be a valuable role player for the Rockets. Who will sooner or later be the starting PF of the team. And I'm hoping he will be a 16-17 ppg and 6-7 rpg kind of player in his second season.
Alright thanks for all the information guys...all good reasons to be outside the NBA. Like I said, I haven't seen him play. The good news is that we're finally adding some legitimate depth at the PF position.
Hey Scola, welcome to the board. If the Rockets don't get a starting power forward through trade you can be assured that Scola will be starting this year. Immediately. Cheers, Brock
