Well, its in ny daily news today. if you want to see what it looks like bad enough ours is still better.. we have have retractable roof.. even if they are paying 900 mil for their stadium.
lol, I told a new yorker that. . which got into an argument about they are building a lot better one since it costs so much. which got into a cost of living one.. of course he says its completely funded by team, whereas the fact that 300 mil of stuff around the stadium... parking, new station, etc is being paid for by city and state so.. I see that as them paying for some of it
This...... 50,800 5-60 suites and NO retractable roof that was in past proposals. I'll have an article up in moments.....
yeah well they are still having to pay for things they wouldn't have otherwise built hooray for cities who only make tourists pay for things!
This from Newsday Report: Yankees and local governments near deal for new stadium April 16, 2005, 5:59 AM EDT NEW YORK (AP) _ The New York Yankees are close to reaching an agreement with city and state governments to build a new stadium, the Daily News reported Saturday. Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper reported that lawyers from the city, state and team are completing a "memorandum of understanding" and that an announcement is expected around May 1. While government and team officials did not comment directly about plans or the pending agreement, the newspaper said they did confirm that they are in the final stages. "We're working very closely with the city and the state and trying to finalize our current plan," Yankees president Randy Levine told the Daily News. "We expect to announce it in the near future, and we hope to break ground in 2006 and be ready to play in 2009." The new stadium will be built just north of the existing facility in the Bronx, and is designed to seat 50,800. That's smaller than the current capacity of 57,478, but the new ballpark will have more luxury suites. The newspaper, citing officials familiar with the plans, reported that the new stadium will be comprised of two separate structures: an exterior wall, designed to replicate the original Yankee Stadium built in 1923, and the interior stadium itself. The stadium construction will cost approximately $800 million and will be fully paid for by the team. The city and state will spend $300 million to build a new commuter rail station, improve parking, and create parkland along the nearby waterfront. The new stadium will feature copper lattice work around its roof, much like the 1923 stadium. The new facility will also have expanded retail and concession areas.
And this was the old retractable-roofed "circa 2001" proposal.... Thank goodness George wised up and decided to scrap the retractable roof portion of the plan....
Dude, Retractable roofs rock...imagine...no rainouts...EVER !! Most of the time the roof would be open, but when it was uncomfortable for the fans it would close. Retractable roofs are DA BOMB !! DD
I like this model better for some reason... I'm always interested to see the insides of these stadiums a little more than the outsides (field dimensions, wall angles, special quarks, etc.). I guess that's because that that is what we'll see more often.
dadakota.. lol.. I told the yankee fan he needs a retractable roof . .they are good and his answer was. . "well thats our opinion... we like retro style...we have a history.. .its all opinion and we don't mind rainouts... cuz rainouts are a classic baseball tradiiton we can play in all types of weather" So apparently being rained out is a tradition. . and because they can handle rain outs.. they are special.
Well then, you'll love what Miami is trying to build for the Marlins.... And New York is building for the Mets.....
Good to hear. Isnt this stadium literaly falling apart our is that wrigley? Both? I love baseball history but these stadiums have to go one day better now than until after somebody gets hurt.
