I agree. I don't know if it was a big show (probably was) or if Marino was pissed. Though he did get a tad defensive ("I did make it to a Super Bowl"--who cares Dan, you win one or don't--ask the Bills). I won't say the Colts D was all that bad. Not great, but given the 20 minutes or so the Colts O maintained the ball plus 3 TOs 20 points is not all that much to give up. I would have thought holding NE to 20 on a moderate January for Boston would have been enough. The Colts offense is what killed them, and it wasn't like more possessions even if provided by the D would have fixed much. If they scored TDs on just 1/3rd of their 9 possessions they win the game. Tom Brady even admitted it was the NE D versus the Colts O what made the difference.
Gotta ask yourself....if you never get a chance to win a SB...would you rather have made it and BE considered one of the best QBs ever or would you rather have made it and be considered NOT one of the best ever? Boomer also got mad when he was on the hot seat and Dan Patrick said he was the 2nd best left handed QB behind Young. Boomer then went on the say Dan was the 2nd best sports analyst behind the other Boomer
Boomer was not mad about that comment. His comment was in jest and predetermined prior to the taping of that segment. How do I know this? They had the exact same conversation on Patrick's radio program a few hours earlier in the same day. They were laughing the whole time and at the end of the conversation Patrick said, "You gotta use that line on Sportscenter tonight"
I think Boomer was taking a subtle jab at Marino. sidenote - Boomer Esiason and Chris Collingsworth remind me a lot of each other, because they both had similar careers (good not stellar) and want desperately to be thought of along with the NFL all-time greats. More importantly they both want their football analysis to be taken seriously, which will never happen ~ they’re both such goofballs.
