I just finished the 1958 Matheson book, I am Legend. For those who have only seen the movie, it's nothing like it. Long story short, rather than zombies, they're vampires. Anyway, I really enjoyed the story of a lone human trying to survive an apocalypse. Anyone have some suggestions on another book, relatively similar?

I'm thinking about The Rising by Keene. I do enjoy zombie movies, so I figure I'd enjoy zombie books (I've read zombie survival guide and similar other books, but I'm looking for more of a story). Anyone read The Rising? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

If you like that genre and haven't read "World War Z", you should stop everything you're doing and immediately purchase it.

Try the Autumn series by David Moody. Good old-school zombie series.

I read that book. All the vampires did was cry outside his house all the time. The dog also died. Two things macho men hate: vampires crying and being all gay and dogs dying. I get it two emo thumbs down.

Read World War Z. Zombies are awesome. It's not one man vs. the world, but it's real tite and there are no crying vampires.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is post-apocalyptic about one man and his son. Pretty intense stuff. No zombies though, which obviously makes it less awesome from the start.

My favorite example of the genre is Day by Day Armageddon. It is written as a journal by a survivor who was a military aviator before things went down.
