Does anyone know if Bonzi going to play tonight against the Knicks? I know he's in the doghouse, but come on, the only way he can get into game shape is that he as to be on the floor playing. Practice and working out can only take him so far, but working out his rust and his endurance can only happen during the game. We got a player of his caliber but yet we don't play him...
The "player of his caliber" can barely get up for an uncontested dunk and is a turnover machine at the moment. I personally wouldn't mind shipping him out and getting someone else. I believed it was a great decision before the season started, but now that he has shown he has no clue about what his actions mean for his chances of getting a decent contract next year I truly don't know what to think. I was pissed at him for his attitude during the preseason, but let that slide. Then his attitude during the regular season kicks in and I'm thinking that he might be more of a minus that a plus. The only good thing I see with Bonzi right now is that a package of him and Howard can get something pretty good in return. I hope Bonzi makes me eat my words and learns what being on a team is about. I'm also impressed with JVG for sitting Bonzi's fat ass on the bench and stating the reality that Bonzi isn't ready to play.
I don't know if anyone else heard it, but JVG was on 610 yesterday and said that he took the blame for "rushing Bonzi back" when he wasn't ready or in shape and that they will take their time getting him ready as much as possible. He said that it was HIS mistake trying to get Bonzi back before he was ready to go. Obviously, this doesn't jibe with DA's account, but whatever.
JVG saw the terrible display the Rockets gave against Utah and panicked a bit with Dallas next up on the schedule and got Wells back in the lineup.
i agree with that. i mean if the rockets were to continue to play like they did against the jazz and not play bonzi, he'd be hung (i mean this metaphorically) by the fans and the media
it seems a lot of you thought the rockets were blown out of the game. down 5 with 3 minutes to go, rafer with a 3 could have cut it to 2, it wasn't such a blowout.
Ok so its JVGs fault that they started him too early, so whos fault is it that Bonzi was not in shape in the first place.....duh Bonzi himself. If Bonzi is really aiming to get a decent contract next season, he needed to get in shape atleast in the preseason. When he played his first game, he looked so out of shape and lazy that he just woke up from bed. I think he is still not over the fact that he missed out on a decent contract that Kings had offered him and showing his depression.
i'm passing no judgement on bonzi or the situation yet. i will wait until january to see if he's back, if he's in the rotation, how he fits with the team, or if the team should trade him before the deadline.
Really? You are ready to give up on him 5 games into the season?? Thats absurd...Give the guy a chance to play a few games before shipping him out..its not like he shot or beat his girlfriend. Didn't maxwell have an attitude? what about stevie going to the superbowl? Let him work his way back and then judge him when he's on the court. We WILL need this guy come playoff time...without him we are no better than a 2nd round team...with him we have a chance at WCF
you guys need to find some video of bonzi dominating the spurs in the playoffs just a few months ago...i wouldn't get rid of him if there's even a 10% chance that he can do that again. give him time. give him all season. he cost us almost nothing as far as free agents go. once he gets into shape everyone here whining that we should ship him out is going to feel reaaaaal stupid. or maybe they'll just forget they ever wanted him gone since they seem to make extreme emotional statements every other hour...

IM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS BS! U KNOW GUYS EVERY TIME THE ROX GET SOMEONE GOOD SOMETHING IS ALWAYS WRONG
Beating up you girlfriend doesn't hurt your performance on the court. Being lazy and out of shape does. I'm not advocating shipping him out yet; I want to see if he'll get into shape and beat the company drum. But, I've never understood the condemnation of players for off-court stuff and the passes given for on-court stuff. If he's out of shape and has a bad attitude, that impacts the team's success more than if he attends a Superbowl. I think Bonzi will reform and come play. But, we'll see.
But he's only going to be good for about 4 months, that's it. Because as soon as he gets his contract he's gonna spend all his money on beer and cheeseburgers. What if we could parlay him, Sura, and Luther into Donyell Marshall and Damon Jones? Or what if we could send him and Sura to the Clips for Maggette? I'm for moving him if we can get another playa. There's more than one of them out there.
seriously guys, everyone was creaming their pants with excitement with the pickup of wells. just wait a lil and see how things pan out! we've got a pretty deep rotation where even a vet (juwan) who can score, tho not efficient, is even sitting down. he WILL play and he WILL dominate, book it.
When I see that footage, it reminds me so much of Charles Barkley, a short, heavy, PF, that was relentless on the glass and at the rim.....when he was young. Most of that footage was Bonzi overmatching smaller players with his girth or overmatching bigger guys like Duncan with his quickness. He's like a tank out there when being defended by guards or skinny 4s like Horry. He looked like he weighed every bit of 240 in that series. I remember Bonzi as a super skinny twirp in Portland that used to beat guys with his quickness and midrange jumper. What happened?
i still think bonzi will prove to be a good aquisition just not until he gets into shape. there's no point in playing him if he has no explosiveness so he needs to get atleast some of that back before he steps in.
