I am sorry but it was a 3 way trade

Kings get Bonzi Wells, Memphis Gets Kirk Snyder, Curtis Borchardt, and Raul Lopez, and the Jazz get Bobby Jackson and Greg Ostertag. Please edit the the thread because I don't know how to.

    Bonzi Wells traded to Sacramento

Bonzi Wells is a Sacramento King.

The Grizzlies exercised an $8 million team option Friday and agreed to trade Wells to Sacramento in a three-team deal involving the Utah Jazz, NBA sources confirmed.

The deal won’t be announced until the NBA’s moratorium is lifted because of a delay in finalizing the collective bargaining agreement.

Wells, though, will go to Sacramento for guard Bobby Jackson while the Kings will send Greg Ostertag to Utah.
The Jazz also will send forward Curtis Borchardt, and guards Raul Lopez and Kirk Snyder to Memphis.

The 29-year-old Wells was considered the best guard available now that Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Bobby Simmons, Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley have agreed in principle to sign new deals.

The Grizzles also had more than cursory conversations with Boston, Dallas, Washington, Detroit and Utah.

Griz president Jerry West has shopped for deals since Wells was unceremoniously and inexplicably removed from the team during the playoffs. The team also is seeking to move guard Jason Williams and would like to consummate a sign-and-trade deal with free agent guard Earl Watson.

Anyone else wondering why Utah would give up two guards on the minus side of 26 for the biggest millstone in their history?

I think they're just facilitating the deal for a few No. 1s, and clearing some roster chaff in the process.

So this how it went down.

Memphis gets Bobby Jackson, Kirk Snyder, Raul Lopez, and Curtis Borchardt.

    Sacremento gets Bonzi Wells

    Utah gets Greg Ostertag

Why would Utah do this trade?

I am sorry about giving you the wrong info at first.

IMO, Memphis gave up the best player in this deal (especially when you consider Jackson's age and injuries) and at the same time took back a lot of junk to add to an already overstocked roster. Anyways, I wonder where JWill is gonna end up now...

I wonder if Utah is gearing up to trade away Carlos Boozer. They weren't enamored of him after signing him to that huge contract. And I think they wanted to move AK47 back to playing the rangy 3 point shooting power forward. And Mehmut Okur could play backup 4/5 in their lineup.

Just a guess. Boozer isn't worth his contract, although he's no bust by any means, and there are definitely teams that can use long-term contracts; say, perennial-doghouse teams (Atlanta).

So Jerry Sloan really hated Snyder that much, okay. Wells for Bobby Jackson makes a lot of sense for Memphis and Sac, especially since both wore out their respective welcomes with managment. Raul Lopez getting dumped is sad, but his career is in ICU and word has it he's planning an exit back to Spain anyway.

But Ostertag back to the Jazz? And they give up on Borchardt that fast? I wonder if this is more a vote of no-confidence nodded in Okur's direction. Not the defensive player that Sloan demands, maybe?

Now that I worked through it outloud, I suppose the Jazz portion makes sense. Sloan wasn't willing to deal with the guys and they dumped them for a center that he could actually use here and there. Alright.

I guess the Kings have totally abandoned the idea of team chemistry

Snyder has been embarrasingly bad in the summer leagues - playing poorly while at the same time jacking tons of shots and refusing to pass.

If I have ever seen a trade that made three teams worse and no team better this is it. Weird, weird trade.

I'm very surprised the Jazz would take Ostertoast back. I thought that bridge was totally burned when he left. Weird.

I think Utah is trying to clear some cap room and get rid of players they dont like.

Borshart has 2 years 5 million left for a stiff.

Raul Lopez will play in spain next year where he has less of a schedule and can be a star. he has 2 years 4.3 million left on his deal

and Synder was involved in incidents with Bobbys Sura and got into a fight with Stackhouse. Sloan wants nothing to do with him. he has 2 years 3 million left and a team option for 2 more years at 5.6 million.

So utah is able to clear around 12-17 million in cap room of draft mistakes

in Osstertagg sloan gets a known commodity and with only a 1 year contract they can let him go.

Memphis just needed to get something from Wells after Swift left for nothing. They get Snyder and Borstchart as young prospects maybe Fratello can meld. They also get Bobby Jackson who can be their 6th man and clears the way for them to move Jason Williams.

Finally Sacto just needed to get ther best player they could to bolster their roster. THey did the best in the trade from a basketball standpoint, As long as bonzi can repress his Blazers past.

Hopefully we can throw one of our expiring contracts into a 2 way trade like this and pick up a rotation player much like Utah used these two teams to dump talent they dont want or need.
