Yep. This is some hard-hitting journalism.

What do you guys think of this look? Agree? Disagree?

The latest way to turn a guy on is to shoot from the hip

    BY JEFF WILSER

Are hipbones the newest fashion accessory?

Boobs are out - bones are in.

Not too long ago, a protruding hipbone was a cry for help, a sign that a girl needed a bacon cheeseburger, not a modeling contract.

But April's Esquire proclaimed the hipbone "the new cleavage," leaving breasts, legs and booty in the dust, for this month anyway.

    Yikes.

Blame Paris Hilton, Keira Knightley and Mischa Barton, those beanpole starlets whose jutting hipbones chicly signal hunger.

"People are so over boobs," says Esquire's Jessica Pressler. "Sure, they're timeless, but we've seen too many of them. We've seen Pamela Anderson's implants. We've seen too many mothers breast-feeding. We've seen Janet Jackson's nipple, and it was in that scary metal thing."

And with the bikini-wax boom, women have more of an opportunity to show off, down south. "The jeans are worn so low, they're only right above - you know," says Pressler. "In previous generations, before waxing, you couldn't do that."

"This is a body part for the thinking man," says Michael Benabib, a fashion photographer whose subjects include Rosario Dawson. "You can't fake it. Women have breast augmentations, but you've never heard of a hip augmentation." Well, not yet.

Not everyone finds the hipbone hot. Or healthy.

Take Bebesh Khakshouri, a sexy fitness model and trainer with a tummy of steel. When she's not sculpting clients, she's flexing her abs on "Good Day New York," showing the city how to do the perfect crunch. "Flat abs are good, but when I can see the hipbone protruding, I know I need to eat more," she says.

The bone-based erogenous zone is just the latest in a long, haphazard evolution of what turns men on.

Since centuries before Herminie Cadolle invented the modern bra in 1889, cleavage has been sending men into a tizzy.

But then came Pamela Anderson. As she made her slow-mo joggling jog down "Baywatch's'" beach, women everywhere dipped their necklines lower, put on sexier bras and started giving their daughters implants as birthday presents.

Before Britney's name became a punch line that didn't need a joke, Spears hiked up her shirt, bejeweled her belly button, and ushered in an era of abs and teeny-boppin' midriffs.

We've seen butts. Thanks to the eighth wonder of the world that is J.Lo's posterior, millions of women devised crafty ways to get skinny while - however improbably - rounding out their rumps. "My clients used to tell me, 'Make my butt tiny,'" says Khakshouri. "Now, many of them want butt-growing exercises." Butt implants soon became a niche industry.

In the summer of 2002, the shoulder had a meteoric arc. Girls were bump 'n' grinding to Nelly's "Hot in Herre" wearing one-shoulder tops. By fall, those shirts were gone.

    Look out below!

We survived the trying years of "butt cleavage," an era that cruelly gave women a new fashion challenge: matching their shoes, purses and jewelry with the color of their thongs. A few years ago, even "toe cleavage" vied for attention, leading some women to splurge on cosmetic toe surgery.

In the near future, experts predict, side cleavage (à la Jennifer Aniston in Vanity Fair) could emerge as an erogenous zone, while Pressler predicts the collarbone will become chic.

But before you jump on the body-part trend train, beauty experts warn you'll need a lot more than just a jutting hipbone to be truly hot. "Models have to have the whole package," says Becky Southwick, a model agent for Wilhelmina. "They don't just need a good hipbone. I know that people say, 'Oh, last season it was the back. The season before it was the décolletage.' But no. It doesn't work that way."

Tell that to the body-part-obsessed guys we grilled. Among New Yorkers, only one clear pattern emerged: diversity. Some drooled over legs. One guy had a thing for teeth. A dude named Omer confessed his love for women's feet.

"It's all about the T&A, baby," he said. "Toes and arches."

I definitely find the protruding hip bones anything BUT arousing. However, I can't say I'll complain about the recent trend in women's jeans that have them cut so low they have to shave just to avoid showing bush. But if their hips are showing and you get that noticeable hip bone poking out...boooo.

Basically, I like a woman with nice curves. End of story.

Someone that's so skinny as to have their hips protruding like a malnurished cow....that's just disgusting.

Good to see that the guys, at least so far, seem to prefer some curves on a woman. What is so sexy about undernourishment? Would you like to sleep with a skeleton? That's just sick...

    Cameltoes are the new boobs.

Actually it's bubble butts since black culture is having a greater influence on the overall american psyche. What's the latino ideal since they will soon be exerting their influence?

I've said it before but I am as infatuated by boobs as much as anyone but intellectually I know they serve no real sexual purpose. Now cameltoes....

I also like flat tummies but at my age I'm as likely to get close to one as Brian J. Doyle.

Hipbones are chic? Crap, I'm in trouble...

Seriously, that is just repulsive. I don't even know what to say to it. I hope this won't become a burgeoning trend among teenage girls, because a big anorexia fad is the last thing we need. :(

[Hides head in shame.] Ladies...... I know, I know. Sorry to be part of "the problem." For the record, I tried to point out that this is probably an unhealthy trend.

Also, there's a whole color spread in the printed version that has quotes from guys, and a lot of the quotes are about how disgusting it is to see a bony, skeletal girl.

Miguel -- lol. Love the "***NSFW!!!!***" warning.
