Barry Bonds just hit number 600. I kind of figured he'd do this tonight, but the weird thing is the guy who got the ball has a bloody face. To make this more of a thread instead of an announcement, how many of you think he'll break Hank's record? I think he probably will.
He's only 156 away from doing it, but I don't think he'll get there. That's an average of 52 a year for the next three years, a pace I don't think he'll be able to keep up much longer, owing to his age and tendency to get injured these days. He'll probably pass Mays and may make a run on Ruth, but I don't think he'll have enough to catch Hammerin' Hank. Maybe Sosa or ARod, in time, but not Bonds. I just don't think he'll stick around in a feeble attempt to break the record.
Good points. I only said he probably would because he has surprised me a lot all ready. I'm not a huge baseball fan in general, but I do watch the Stros, but I never thought Bonds could do what he did last year. I also thought he'd be a lot worse this year, but although he won't get in the 70's, he will sure be up there. Maybe Bonds could go to the Yankees, like everybody else, and be DH for a few years. That way he won't get injured. Even through that way, he'd have to keep himself in terrific shape and be a little lucky. Not to mention Bonds seems to care more about winning than hitting HR's. I'm just an average baseball fan who wants to see home runs. *BTW, does anyone know how old Hank was when he got it? According to ESPN, Bonds is the 2nd fastest to 600,by abs and games.(Ruth.) I know Hank may have been in the majors at a younger age, but if he was pretty old when he got it, why couldn't Barry.
well whoop-dee-damn-doo! seriously, esitmates have the homerun ball going for $50,000... are you kidding me? what's so special about the 600th homerun ball? What will it be worth once he surpasses Ruth? How ridiculous! I'm surprised that he actually took a curtain call... remember when he hit 500? Not a single teammate acknowledged his accomplishment... only a batboy. guess you reap what you sow.
I dont think his body can last long enough to beat Hank. Did you see the way he runs up the 1st base line? Those hamstrings are ready to give out at any moment. I have never respected him as a teammate, but the guy can flat out play ball. You gotta respect what he has accomplished.
