Everyone I attended the Bon Jovi concert in Columbus, Oh on Sunday night. Let me start this off by saying I was a big fan of their music of late 80's early 90's and like SOME of their new stuff. However this concert was totally ruined by these entertainers trying to make their political statements. I absoletely hate it when these guys do this. Jon basically said I am a little uncomfortable doing this but there's somethign on my mind (I'm sure he says the same thing every night). He went on from their blasting the current administration and saying they are the reason why people are afraid to leave their houses to attend sporting events and go out in public, like to the concert. Jon you know maybe if the terrorists didn't run planes into teh sides of building we wouldn't be having these problems. But to blame the administration, come on. Needless to say he ruined my concert experience. Why don't these guys just entertain us. I don't pay $60/ticket to hear his political views I pay to hear him sing. Anyways what a jacka$$ he turned out to be.
Maybe no one was at the Bon Jovi concert because they've put out luke warm p***y tunes for the past 15 years!
This is why beers come in small, throwable bottles. Because rock stars should not talk between songs. Eddie Vedder is also horrible like this. Between "Black" and "Evenflow" at Lollapalooza 92 he gave a 15 minute speech about Bush Sr. and abortion. Just what I came to the concert to listen to.
Well it wasn't because of a lack of a crowd. We got belted by a huge storm (probably 10 inches of snow by the time the show started). Surrounding counties were in a snow emergency and everything else was cancelled. Show was sold out (18K I guess) and probably 90% of the seats were filled even with the storm. But I agree their new stuff is very different, but I still liek their old stuff (Slippery when wet)
I shared Eddie Vedder's political views. I still wanted to chuck a beer at him. Shut up and play already.
If it wasn't me getting offended it would have been someone else. Most polls are split nearly 50-50% on the Iraq war. So he knew by running his pie hole that he would make 1/2 the crowd uncomfortable. Besides that's not my point, should entertainers give their political beliefs at concerts. Sure if you go see a politician speak you expect that. But people go to social events to have a good time and be able to forget the "real" world for a couple hours. As fo rthe ticket price that was the face value (actually $57.50) so I paid the same as everyone else who bought thru ticketmeiser.
Best served warm, but I won't turn it down, in general. I totally agree with 4chuckie, actually. I mean, entertainers are supposed to entertain. I don't mind the occasional story at the mic, again, if it's interesting or amusing. Malkmus, formerly of Pavement, could ramble at the mic all day, and I couldn't be happier. I remember a long story once about a speeding ticket the band got on the way to the concert, which sounds completely stupid, but it was funny.
He never did really rant politically onstage, but he sure liked to whip out little Jimmy...without the jimmy-hat!
Eh. They still rock and I still have no problem shelling out top dollar for a ticket when they come into town next month. He's entitled to his own opinions, and as long as they turn out a kickass rendition of "Bad Medicine," he can say whatever he pleases. What did you think of "Bounce?" I loooooooove the title track.
4C I was almost at that concert myself. In retrospect, I'm glad I missed it if this is how it went. I think there is a time and place for that and this isnt it. People go to concerts and enjoy themselves, not listen to Jon's political views. I like the music (the old stuff) and had planned to go but my wifes mom has been on dialysis and not doing so good, so we were in Florida visiting. BTW, I couldnt believe it when I got off the plane in Port Columbus and the snow was this bad.
