Bomb scare at Norquist's office

The offices of anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist were briefly evacuated on Monday after a bomb scare.

The DC headquarters of Americans for Tax Reform received the threat this morning and the staff was asked to temporarily leave the building, which is located at 722 12th Street, N.W., according to the Washington police.

Anthony Clay, a police spokesperson, told POLITICO that a bomb unit searched the office, but that no explosives were found.

Clay said that the all clear has since been sounded and that staffers have been allowed to return to work. He said he had no further information about the nature or content of the threat that had been called in.

The bomb scare comes just days after Norquist was in the news after he told the Washington Post that allowing the Bush-era tax cuts to expire wouldn’t be a violation of his no-tax pledge, which was signed by many Republican lawmakers.

Norquist also insisted that the pledge wasn’t impeding a deal to raise the debt ceiling, as Democrats have charged.
