Might be fun to predict next season's opening day starting lineup. Based on everything I've been reading and my own wishful thinking, I'm going to go with:

    B Barry
    T-Mac
    J Jackson
    Eton Thomas
    Yao

Quite a change from this past season's starters, but....who knows?

I like that lineup. Keeping Cato and signing B Barry and T-Mac...makes a huge impact on the team's performance. MoT and Cato will find their roles while T-Mac and B Barry handle the offense w/ Yao.

Next Years Starting Line-up and Team:

    Barry (backup) Wilks
    McGrady Cat Piatdowski
    Jackson Nachbar
    Taylor Weatherspoon
    Yao JuwonHoward

That of course is if we swing McGrady/Howard for Francis/Cato/Change and then we can sign Brent Barry to the exception.

I heard San Antonio wants Barry badly though and even the Lakers have their eyes on him.

The only thing really surprising about that lineup is Cato still starting next year. If we do keep the same backcourt, which is fine, then I promise you, there will be some changes in the front court. we do still have the TE.

Jim Jackson and Brent Barry in the same backcourt would be a defensive disaster -- they are both decent defenders but at this stage in their careers, they get flambed by quicker guards. Francis and Mobley are Alvin Robertson & Michael Cooper in the backcourt compared to those two.

Ideally, the starting lineup would look like:
    Yao
    Swift
    Jackson
    Mcgrady
    Barry

    Transactions:
Mcgrady and Hill for Francis, Cuttino and trade exception
Stromile Swift signed and traded for Cato
Brent Barry signed for the MLE

But, realistically I would be satisfied with any lineup with Yao, Mcgrady, and 3 decent role players.

Barry shouldn't even be called a decent defender, he's pretty horrible. If the rumors are true that he's asking for the full MLE, the Rockets would be making a huge mistake to bring him in. Giving that type of money to a 32 year old, and ask him to start at a postion he's played little over the course of his career is a disaster waiting to happen.

You are exactly right. Every PG in the league will be blowing by the defense and right into the lane, keeping Yao in foul trouble and dishing for the wide open jumpers because the perimeter defense is fading off to help protect the middle.
