Does anyone recall how Francis and Mobley wanted to trade Yao Ming for Lamar Odom? Well it might turn out that they drafted someone (Nachbar) with all of Odom's skills and then some(smoking a pound a weed, notwithstanding).

For now I'm just happy to think of Boki as a great shooter. I don't want to compare him to Odom until he has a few starts under his belt as a Rocket. I have no idea about his rebound and passing abilities on the NBA level.

not even in the same vicinity of comparable.

Odom cannot shoot like Boki, and Boki is not a playmaker/dribbler/passer like Odom. Odom is more rare. Boki won't be running any NBA offenses.

imo, Boki (as described and seen in those videos) is more like a plethora of NBA pure shooters from history who could slash to the rim. Ricky Pierce was excellent at it as a yungin. So was a young Glen Rice and Steve Smith. The top NBA star who most matches Boki's descroption is Ray Allen, imo. And let's just hope Boki has a quick release to get his shot off against defenses like Ray Allen.

Don't forget that Odem is also injured and may not even play for several months.

    :D :D :D :D :D

Isn't Boki alot taller with better jumping ability. He may not need to have as quick of a release.

    coma,

    *sigh*

Ray has one of the quickest releases in the game, so allow me to rephrase for clarity,

"get his shot off against defenses, like Ray Allen does."

    is that better?

    rockbox,

Rudy describes Boki as a deceptive dunker, meaning he doesn't have that leaping ability that stands out like Ginobili. It could just be a long arm thing. As far as the height thing, Allen doesn't play against SFs, so it is not like he is not short for his position. Boki will still need a quick release to hit top potential. All the best had quick releases.

If we are to compare him to SFs that are close to the same height, that is a young Rice....as top potential. As for nowadays, you name one. There aren't that many 6'9-10 pure shooting slashers out there. I refrained from the Peja comparisons, because Boki looks quicker.

To me, the main thing is that Boki has more of a team attitude. That's more important than comparing their skills. The Rox are full of great talent, scorers, and playmakers. Great TEAM players have been what's missing.

lamar odom is the slickest 6'10 dribbler in the NBA, and probably the best passer as well for that height. he is also incredible in running fast breaks. we all have heard that boki can finish in a fast break, but sometimes actually running up the court with the ball and passing it at the precise moment to the right person is the harder part, and thats whtat Lamar Odom can do so well. so to me its just not a very valid comparison.

of course this does not mean that Boki cant turn out to be better:D

I think the ability to shoot with some one in his face will be the deciding factor on how Boki will do in the NBA.

I was watching some old games with Calvin Murphy and he was able to get it into the rim even though he may not have been able to see it with his man covering him. It was incredible how some of the shots he took got into the hole.

    verse,

I can't really speak to the '70s, didn't pay enough attention and because I didn't think the defenses were comparable to need the really quick releases. So, anyhow:

Catch and Shoot: Reggie and Larry, tie, and arguably dozens of others...I mean, you can only get so fast, and there were many of these guys.

Off the Dribble: Larry with Rice an acceptable choice.

Turnaround J off the dribble: Larry. Wasn't Bernard King pretty fast, though?

    Conclusion: Larry

Dale Ellis had one of the quickest releases I've seen coming off a pick in particular. How about Mahmoud Raoof (SP?)

Thank you Since75, I was just going to mention Ellis.

Sometimes it looked like he was barely around the pick, and yet the shot would be in mid-air. Damn, he used to kill the Rocks coming off picks!

Didn't Eddie Johnson have a quick release also?

I seem to remember Chris Mullin in his heyday with the Warriors having a pretty unbelievably quick release. It seemed like he wasn't even catching the pass, just kind of tapping it in from way out there. Having people in his face, falling all over him, whatever, didn't seem to even phase him.
