To make the playoffs this year (unless there is another trade) 6-9 Boki must start and hold his own. The time is now! 6-6 Jimmy Jackson is NOT a starting SF on a winning team; 6-6 Eric Piakowski is NOT a starting SF on a winning team in the NBA. 6-5 Adrian Griffin is NOT a starting SF in the league unless surrounded by Nowitski/Finley/and Nash. They are TOO SHORT. Lets pray Bostjan will make the most of the opportunity. If not lets trade for Vladamir Radmonovic!
Funny. Ellie was 2 inches shorter and did just fine. JJ is the starter, deal with it. Nachy will be lucky to get scrub minutes.
You are basing him sucking on playing ummm 3 games last year...and riding the pine. Yes he didn't good in the summer league games but i really think this boy can play. He shows he can in europe where he leads his team most of the time. The best thing we can do is give him a chance. If he plays a few games then we might be able to judge if he sucks or not....
Radmanovic? Are you kidding? That guy's no 3! He may be able to shoot, but he moves like snufflupagus!
1st of all Elie is not two inches shorter he is 6-5 and J. Jackson and E. Piakowski are 6-6. Second, Elie played next to 6-7 Clyde drexler not an undersized shooting guard (6-4 Mobley). The 1st ring we won Elie backed up Horry at the 3. We would have the shortest SF in the west tied w/ the clippers w/ Magettee (who plays much bigger than his 6-6 height).
Yes, I see your point on players. Let's trade for Shawn Bradley, a 7-6 PF, are you kidding me?! John Amechi at the 3, Cato at the 2, Griff is up there as well, he can be the 1! The average height of that team is through the roof! Sure-thing chamionship. Height doesn't always make you the optimum player at your position. Don't take this personally, Terps. Talent far outweighs size.
6-5 listed height. Whatever. Point is there's no rule that you have to be 6'8" to be a sf. If you're tough enough to play there, the height doesn't matter. Ask Spree. Ask Ruben Patterson. JJ fits that mold. Yeah, and after that 1st ring we had plenty of winning seasons with Ellie as the starting sf.
isnt that 1 of the most talked about things in JJ. that he is so strong and can hold his own at the 3.....
Dude. Come on. Jackson, Piatowski, and Adrian Griffin (who started for the Mavs) aren't fit to start at the 3, but Boki is? The same Boki who hasn't proven anything in any NBA game? He should start because... he's taller? Ugh.
We should have a good idea by the end of trainging camp what the future holds for Boki and the Rockets. JVG's defensive push is going to push him in or push him out. I believe he can, or should, learn how to play a defense that matches his speed and skills. He is long enough to cover his man out toward the line while staying back far enough to not get crossed over on a run down the lane. Hopefully JVG came around at just the right time for him to stay in the league.
If boki starts, we are in serious trouble whether he is 6'9 or not... that should be the title of this thread.
OK - Agreed. One problem, we also have the least talented 3 in the west. In addition, you add to my point -- we look as ridiculus as the old Knicks playing 6-5/6-6 guys at SF. The average shooting guard is taller than that. We need NOT play people out of position. Our only "True" SF now is boki - live w/ it.
Frank Johnson (Phoenix Coach) also said 2 days ago he was commited to Jake Tskalitas as his starting center -- he's now on Memphis. Sh.. Happens!
Hello!!! European competion does not equal NBA competition. Remember Mirsad Turkan --> draft pick bust of the Rockets. Until Boki proves he can add value to our team during game time, he will not get any playing time. Furthermore, he reminds me of Dan Langhi who lit it up during practice but couldn't produce on the court in the game. I strongly suggest we do NOT start Boki. He in fact is buried on the depth chart now due to the FA acquistions of Griffin, Pike, and JJ.
Boki may yet prove to be a nice NBA player. But it's a lot to ask of him to step up and be a starter on a playoff caliber team this year. Jackson, Griffin and Piatkowski are proven NBA players who have proven themselves to be solid small forwards. If Boki outplays them, he'll get his minutes.
You are missing the point. Depth chart??? we have only 1 real Small Forward now. Maybe it's time to bring back Terrance Morris. The griff/j. jack/ pik are BACKUPSs at the 3 NOT Starters. Adrian Griffin was surrounded by 6-7 finley and 7-0 Nowitski. We are already undersized at the 2 w/ 6-4 Mobley. it wont work unless Boki steps up. He was supposed to be NBA ready last year!
