Later today (Fri) at 2pm Tech has scheduled a press conference to "Discuss one thing and one thing only". Unless Tech ****s a brick, Knight will be introduced tomorrow. As of 10pm Thursday there were some indications that the aforementioned press conference may be pushed back, but if that happens I would bet that Knight would end up not being the coach. I'm sure ESPN News will probably cover the press conference, but my station will definately cover it and the audio from it will be at our website (listed below). Also, Scott Fitzgerald, from my station will be on San Fran's KNBR 680 at 9:25am CST tomorrow. You can listen live to KNBR at www.knbr.com

Basically, since this broke all hell has broken loose in Lubbock. Many people feel Dickey was done wrong by Tech, but Tech is looking for something to give the Men's Basketball program a shot in the arm. Hopefully, the move won't backfire, but with someone like Bobby Knight you never know.

Maybe I'll get the chance to meet Knight tomorrow. [IMG] I know one thing; If I do meet him my first words to him won't be "Hey Knight".

*EDIT* One other thing all of the press about James Dickey being an "honest, honorable man" is 100% correct. I've gotten to meet Coach and do his show a few times, and he is a very nice man who will hopefully get another chance down the road.

Wow... this press conference should be gooood!

I know Knight is buddies with the AD there or something but Tech must be pretty desperate to sign this guy with all the baggage that he brings.

Tech has the right to make a coaching change, but the way the Tech AD handled it was classless. No wonder. Bob Knight and the Tech AD have been friends for a long time. The little respect I had for Texas Tech is gone...not for hiring Bob Knight, but the way James Dickey was treated. I can't believe an AD and university president would lie to Dickey. This guy has been the coach at Tech for over a decade. He has done so much for the program, and yet the Tech AD can't be a man and tell Dickey his decision. Dickey asked Myers three times this week about his imminent release only to hear Myers say I'm not gonna comment. What kind of BS is that? Dickey is your coach not some writer who can get the run around. Gene Wojciechowski of ESPN says it the best: RED TRAITORS. That is what the Tech AD is.

I wish Bob Knight good luck with his new position. Like I said it is the perfect situation. He will have no behavioral clause. Since he is "The Man" no one will question him. Knight may get respect in Lubbock, but across the Big XII he better get ready to take the heckling (not that I condone it [IMG]).

Knight cannot be introduced as the head coach tomorrow because Texas has some 10 day wait rule for college and universities when a position opens up. Dickey though will be fired. He might end up at OSU with his former boss Eddie Sutton. I can't wait till next season.

I agree with Smokey. I think it's similar to how Tom Penders was fired. While UT may have been right to fire him (and apparently was), the backstabbing way it was handled was just tacky. At least tell the coach you're letting him go -- even if it's just in private.

I don't like how the Pender's situation played out, but I have alot of respectr for Dickey. BTW, Dickey had a chance to jump ship when the sanctions hit (LSU), but he chose to stay.
