Does anyone know what's the status of Bob Sura now? I heard he'll be back around early March, then again, I heard he's not coming back this season and that he may retire.....any news?
Last I heard, he was not coming back this season and may not be able to play again. That was last week on 610am.
Assuming Sura is done, does the injury exception count as a signing exception to be able to bring over V-Span next season without dipping into the MLE?
that freakin sucks. That was a huge blow to our team, assuming he played like he did last year. He would've been a nice back up to rafer.
Sura is done. He'll never play professionally again. Even if he had come back, he wouldn't have been the same. Time to forget the guy IMO.
It's possible, but doesn't seem likely given how Sura's condition occurred. Here's what Larry Coon, the Salary Expert has to say about the subject: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#19 It seems like guys who have chronic injuries like Grant Hill have a much harder time getting an exception. But who knows. This would be an ideal situation if we could bring over V-Span without dipping into our MLE.
As I understand it, he did not BLOW out his knee, but rather it swelled up again after practice. I think he is low on cartlidge. DD
Yeah, it's iffy, but we might have an outside chance if we can convince the league early retirement is imminent because of this latest setback. Interesting that Manning's and Hill's ACL injuries did not merit an exception, yet McDyess's and MoT's injuries did. Looks like there must be ironclad proof from NBA doctors that the guy isn't returning that year. With Sura, that's doubtful but we'll have to see. Also, judging by the officiating this season that resulted from JVG's troublesome words in the playoffs, I don't think the league will be doing us any favors.
If lack of cartlidge in the knee is the issue - there are a lot of very effective treatments for that. They can grow from a sample and inject it directly inside the kneecap.
I have the same problem in my left knee. It's not a fun situation. The cartlidge is the cushion in the joint. Without it, you have bone on bone with every movement and that is painfull. I have a problem bowling, I can't imagine trying to play pro basketball with it.
Actually a friend of mine just did this, they don't inject it, they sew it into the spot, they have to open up the knee and then sew the new cartlidge into place. It takes 6-8 months for full recovery, but he says that the doctor told him it will be like new when it is done. Amazing stuff. DD
If that's true, then Sura needs to do it now so he can be ready by next season And yes, I miss the Tru Warrior as well (sorry Ron-Ron, I call you Lune Warrior).
At Sura's age he should be preparing himself for the next 50 years of his life rather than 1 or 2 more years of painful and unpredictable basketball.
